Sylvia Saquet Obituary

Sylvia Marie Jeanne Saquet
July 18, 1936 - December 3, 2021

It is with deep sadness the family of Sylvia Saquet announces her passing on December 3rd, 2021, at the age of 85 years old, at the Ste. Rose General Hospital.

She is lovingly remembered by her husband of 64 years, Jules, her daughters Gisèle (Rob) Vandepoele, Carole (Blaine) Bray and her grandchildren, Derek (Bailey), Craig (Lyric), Kelsey (Colin) and Nolan (Amy).

Sylvia leaves many memories to be cherished by her sisters Angeline (Lucien) Houde, Bibianne (Ron) Plessis, and brothers Cyril Gamache, Adrien (Judy) Gamache and Jean Gamache, her sisters-in-law Thérèse Fouillen, Mary Gamache, Donna Gamache, and brother-in-law Noël Saquet as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

She is predeceased by her parents Jeanne (Dupré) and Phillipe Gamache, her brothers Gérald, Gérard, Fernand, Luc and her sisters Marie Gamache and Denise Saquet, as well as her sisters-in-law Cécile Gamache and Annabelle Saquet, brothers-in-law Marcel Saquet and Alex Fouillen.

Sylvia was born on July 18th, 1936 and was raised on the family farm just outside of Laurier, MB. She attended school at École Pennarun and Laurier School. Her careers included working at the Royal Bank for many years followed by a position as a teacher assistant at École Laurier. Later, she worked at the Ste. Rose Hospital as a ward clerk for 15 years. She enjoyed her time with all the staff members and had fond memories.

Alongside her husband, Sylvia established their roots on the family farm where they raised their family. They had a large and bountiful garden that they tended to all summer long. She loved sharing the many vegetables they harvested with family and friends. There was always more than enough for everyone! She also took great pride in taking care of her blossoming flower garden and enjoyed feeding the hummingbirds. She was very hard working in everything she did.

Sylvia had many hobbies such as paper tole, knitting, crocheting, sewing, making beaded Christmas ornaments as well as playing cribbage and ice fishing with family and friends. We were all blessed with many pairs of slippers, sweaters, dishcloths, towels and beautiful ornaments, but most of all, we were blessed with her love and generosity. Sylvia’s greatest pride and joy were her four grandchildren; her love for them was unconditional. She treasured her time with her family and loved having everyone together for a delicious meal and a good crib game.

We will all miss Mom’s smile, laughter, hugs and kisses.
Tu seras toujours dans nos cœurs.

The family would like to thank all the staff at the Ste. Rose Clinic and the Ste. Rose General Hospital. A special thank you to Dr. Gudmundson for her dedication in taking care of Mom as well as Dr. O’Hagan. We are very grateful for your compassion and kindness.

A celebration of Sylvia’s life will be held at a future date when family and friends are able to safely gather.

She walks beside us every day.
Unseen, unheard but always near,
So loved, so missed, so very dear.
