Nancy Louise Dakins Obituary

Nancy Louise Dakins, 79, of Mishawaka, passed away surrounded by her family on Saturday evening, December 4, 2021, at Raclin Hospice House, Mishawaka.

Nancy was born November 23, 1942 in Mishawaka to the late Arthur and Augusta (DeWinter) Steenbeke. She was a graduate of Mishawaka High School and lived her entire life in Mishawaka.

Nancy married Dale George Dakins on June 17, 1961 in St. Joseph Catholic Church. Dale, her husband of 60 years survives, along with five children, David (Jeri) Dakins, Paul (Jenny) Dakins, Susan Dakins, Jackie (Eric) LeSage and Kimberly (Robert) Woelfel; six grandchildren, Nicholas, Abigail, Charlotte, Sawyer, Hunter and Logan; one great grandchild, Chloe; three brothers, Joseph (Gerri) Steenbeke, Thomas Steenbeke, John (Linda) Steenbeke; and a sister, Patricia Marsic.

Nancy was preceded in death by a daughter, Gail Louise Dakins; four sisters, Joanne Kloski, Mary Rose Kamerer, Angela Weber and Dorothy Varda; and two brothers, William and Arthur Steenbeke.

Nancy retired after working over 25 years for Deco-Art. Earlier employment included Hook’s Drug Store, Valley American Bank and Revco. She was a long-time member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Mishawaka where she volunteered for funeral luncheons. Nancy was an all-around great homemaker and enjoyed cooking, baking, flower gardening, sewing and needle work. She was a former member of Catholic Order of Foresters and Daughters of Isabella as well as Hallmark Ornamaniacs Club.

A Catholic Funeral Service will be held at 11 am on Thursday, December 9, in Goethals & Wells Funeral Home, 503 W. 3rd Street, Mishawaka, with Rev. Christopher Lapp officiating. Cremation will follow with burial at a later date in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 pm on Wednesday and from 10 to 11 am on Thursday in the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to Center for Hospice Care.
