Garden City- Rodney Dean Bachman, 70, died on Tuesday, December 1, 2021 at Porter Adventist Hospital in Denver, Colorado. He was born on June 14, 1951 at Portales, New Mexico the son of William Leroy & Bessie Madge (Roberson) Bachman. He married Connie Jo Hampsten on May 27, 1972 at the Baptist Church of Las Lunas, NM. Rodney graduated from Manzano High School in Albuquerque, New Mexico and entered the United States Marine Corps. After his discharge he moved to Beaver, Oklahoma where he began his law enforcement career in 1976. He was with the Beaver Police Department before joining the Beaver County Sheriff Department. He moved to Bovina, Texas and was the Chief Of Police from 1983 to 1986. He then moved to Borger, Texas where he served the police department until 1990 when he left as a Lieutenant. In 1991 he moved to Garden City to begin his career with the Garden City Police Department. He worked his way through the ranks and held many different positions to include Training Coordinator, Range Master, Firearms Instructor, and armorer. He commanded the Patrol Division and Community Response Division and was instrumental in starting the SWAT Team and the Honor Guard. He retired as Captain of the department. After retiring he started RB Security and was in charge of security at Sunflower Electric Company. He enjoyed working in his yard, riding his motorcycle and had been part of the American Legion Riders. He is survived by his Wife- Connie Bachman, Daughter- Crystal & Dan Hogie of Garden City, Son- Bill Bachman of Garden City, 3 Brothers- Roger Bachman of Denver, Colorado, Chris & Brenda Burkart of Clovis, New Mexico and Randi & Teresa Burkart of Burns Flat, Oklahoma, 2 Sisters- Linda & Rick Madera of Clovis, New Mexico and Michele & Sean Simonsen of New Braunfels, Texas and 7 Grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his Parents, Parents-In-Law – Ken and Myra Hampsten, Son- Travis Bachman, Grandson- Dale Bachman and Daughter-In-Law – Danielle Bachman. Funeral Service will be at 10:30 AM Friday at First Southern Baptist Church in Garden City with Rev John Harms officiating. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery with honors by the Garden City Police Department Honor Guard. Friends may call from Noon to 8:00 PM Thursday at Garnand Funeral Home.
