Rachel Marie Hypes Obituary

Rachel Marie Billings Hypes was called to Heaven on December 4th, 2021. She was born in Slab Fork, WV on March 14th 1947.

Before her passing, she resided in Hotchkiss, WV with her husband and granddaughters. Rachel spent many hardworking years owning and operating her own produce market, but Rachel’s true passion was her lifelong commitment to her family. A mother to not only her children and grandchildren, but to so many that would enter her home. She always said, “you may have came as friends but you’re gonna leave as family.”

She had a way of making anyone that came to visit feel like they were one of her children. Cooking, coffee, and conversation were the main ingredients that Rachel used to ensure everyone felt right at home. A truly beloved woman, she enjoyed meeting new people from every facet of her life while maintaining old friendships from her childhood through phone calls and Facebook.

Rachel loved working puzzles, playing on her I-pad, and listening to all types of music. She also had a love for adventures. There was not a backroad she didn’t know or a shortcut she had not taken. She loved to explore and photograph every moment of it.

Rachel was preceded in death by both her parents, Carlos and Geraldine Billings; Step Father Ern Long, her siblings Dwayne Billing and his wife Freda Billings, David Billings, and Bertie Maheras and her husband Tommy Maheras; Mauld and Henry Canterbury
Nelva and Sam Webster and Betty Jo Hypes, her daughter and best friend, Bertia Arellanos; and her granddaughter Nevaeh Hypes.
She is survived by her Loving Husband of 54 years, Peter Hypes, Sr,; her children, Elizabeth Hypes, Derrick Hypes, and Petie Hypes and his wife Maranda; her grandchildren Priscilla Raines, Makayla King, Michael King, Hillary King, Alli Jo Hypes, Derrick Hypes II, Andrea Hypes, Evangeline Tiede, Rachel Arellanos, Marissa Arellanos, Karlee Hypes, Tre Hypes, Tegan Hypes, Kinsley Hypes; and her great-grandchildren Jesom Culver and Paisley Sumpter.

Rachel will truly be missed by not only her family but also those whose lives she’s touched during her time spent on Earth. Her life will be celebrated with a Memorial at the Mullens Pentecostal Holiness Church on Tuesday 07 December 2021 at 6:30 PM.
