Charles Phillip MacLean New Glasgow, Nova Scotia Obituary

Charles Phillip MacLean

Phillip “Oafie” MacLean, 66, passed away peacefully December 3rd, 2021 with the love of his life by his side after an 11-year battle with Prostate Cancer. He spent his final days at the Aberdeen Hospital Palliative Cancer unit surround by his children, their spouses, his brothers and sisters and friends. Born and raised in New Glasgow, Phillip was an adamant family man. Always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need, he always knew the best way to do it (even if it was wrong or took forever). He worked 35 years at Northern Pulp in various roles. In his spare time, he loved to golf and spend time with friends down at the Bombers Club and quality time with his family. Oaf was selfless, always giving of his time, love, and friendship to all. His giving nature was undeniable especially when in 1975 his youngest sister Debra was in immediate need of a kidney transplant, and, as always, Oaf was first in line, not only to save his sister's life, but also to ease the family's decision on who would make the kidney donation. His everlasting joy was the love of his life Cindy, who he cherished and with whom he led an amazing life for 42 years. He always looked forward to his winters in Florida with Cindy or travelling together to a new destination. Later in life Phillip's passion became spending time with his 3 grandchildren, swimming with them at the cottage or doing “big work”. He is survived by his wife and soulmate Cindy MacLean, his daughter Lindsay (Nathan) Muir, grandchildren Cameron and Maya; Son Shawn (Emily) and grandson Charlie. Brothers Doane (Anne), Kevin (Joan), Mark (Marie), Allie (Kelly); and Sister Debra (Millan) Fraser and his many beloved Nieces and Nephews. He is pre-deceased by his parents Charles & Phyllis and sister Terry “Channy” Gladney as well as his in-laws Lawrence and Joan MacKinnon. Visitation will be Monday Dec 6 from 7-9pm at Angus HW Funeral Home 256 King St New Glasgow N.S. Funeral will be held at Angus HW Funeral Home Tuesday Dec 7 at 11am. In lieu of flowers or gifts donations in memory of Phillip can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. Love you all, bye for now. Masks are mandatory, proof of full vaccination is required to attend the visitation or the funeral. www.angusfuneralhomes.com
