Betty JoAn Franklin Obituary

Betty JoAn Franklin

Born January 5, 1932

Austin, Texas

On December 1, 2021, JoAn, as she was known to her friends, left us to join our Lord and walk with him in the Kingdom of Heaven. She was 89. An Austin Native and 4th generation Texan, JoAn was a 1950 graduate of Austin High School and was a beautiful member of Austin High's famous "Red Jackets" Pep Squad and dancing troupe. Shortly after graduation she married her longtime sweetheart, then a young Marine Corp. Private, Charles E. Franklin known to all as "Sonny." Sonny had also been a very popular personality and stand out football star of Austin High School. They would shortly thereafter begin their long journey together, along with their eldest daughter Vicki, when they were stationed to Pearl Harbor, Honolulu, HI during the Korean Conflict.

They would return to Austin after the war, and continue to grow their family with two more children, Michael and Carri. JoAn would go on to work in positions both at the Texas Department of Public Safety and also the IRS as an accountant. In later years she worked in Day Care, as she so very much loved children.

In 1977, she and Sonny moved to the Austin suburb of Dripping Springs where they raised their eldest grandson Eric, and where they enjoyed life on a small ranch raising animals and gardening.

In 1993, JoAn and Sonny, moved to the City of Marble Falls where they have built many lasting friendships and where they had joined the First Baptist Church. Previous church affiliations were Fitzhugh, Bannockburn, and Oak Hill, Baptist Churches

JoAn loved traveling and RV'ing with Sonny all over the United States, spending time with family, cooking for the Holidays, and spoiling her many grandchildren.

Known as "Mimi" or "Mim" for short, she enjoys a legacy of numerous grandchildren, including a couple of new Great-Great Grandchildren.

JoAn is predeceased by her parents, Artie Mae & "Buck" Robinson, and her daughter Vicki Fulford.

She is survived by her loving husband of 72 years, Charles E. "Sonny" Franklin; children, Michael & Carri; grandchildren, Eric, Dusty, Garrett, & Ryan; great Grandchildren, Katelyn, Jaxson, Malayah, and Julianne; great-great grandchildren Porter and Parker.

Mimi, you will be greatly missed and never forgotten. Rest in peace until we see you again. With Love, ALL of Us.

There will be a viewing at Harrell Funeral Home in Dripping Springs, on Wed. Dec. 8, from 5-7pm. A graveside service for just family, will be held Thurs. Dec. 9, at the Puryear Cemetery in Dripping Springs, TX.
