Brian J. Casteel, 47 of Newburg left us for a peaceful rest on December 2, 2021. He was born October 28, 1974 in Philippi son of Barbara Jean Burgoyne Casteel of Newburg and the late Jarold (Jerry) Wayne Casteel.
Brian began to run at six months and pretty much kept that pace for the next forty-seven years. He was lovingly nicknamed Ricky Bobby.
We all share the hilarious memories of this hyper kid who could strip and be in the bath water twenty times a day if the opportunity was afforded (no one spared),  the tall tales he could make up as he went, the escape artist he was to sneak his sister out to  Pap and Granny's for breakfast, putting on his cousins boots and going to revival service and leaving him barefoot at the neighbors, and many more, probably best left untold, with his sister, cousins and friends. He was also a very kind soul who looked out for those less fortunate than him. We were always gathering things he felt kids needed. He worked through the laborers local 379 as both laborer and boss from high school to 2003.  At that time he went to work in the coal mines both as laborer and boss.
His family, who survive him, a small branch of a very large close family are his mother Barbara, his children Zane, Payton and Sarah, Newburg WV,  Emily and Caleb Maley and granddaughter Eliza of Grafton WV, his sister Rebecca (Beck) and Jason Hershman and their son, Ryan Pyles,  daughters Samantha, Mackenzie and Jadyn of Evansville WV, and his beloved dog Roxie; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

In addition to his father, Brian was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Robert Emmett and Mildred Virginia Cain Burgoyne; paternal grandparents, Clarence Joshua and Alice Lavern Murphy Casteel. 

Brian chose to have a very private service followed by cremation. There will be a gathering to celebrate his love and life at a later date.
