Betty Hegle Obituary

Life-long artist and jack of all trades, Betty Hegle’s curiosity of life didn’t come to an end with her death. Betty passed away on November 28th, 2021, at the age of 66 from ovarian cancer. In her final moments, she was surrounded by her three daughters, who will continue to honor her legacy by living their lives to the fullest.

Betty completed her Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of Toledo. Originally from Ohio, Betty moved to Seattle in 2001 and immediately fell in love with the pacific northwest. She spent most of her life sharing her artistic creativity through, glasswork, ceramics, photography, jewelry, clothing, and gardening. She especially loved creating beautiful elaborate dresses for her granddaughters. Betty’s pride was in her family, and she shared her passion for the arts with all her grandchildren.

Betty is survived by her daughters; Tara McLennan (Larry), Alexis Harste and Christa Hunter (Jonathan). Her grandchildren; Alyssa, Tony, Paige, Delilah, Everly and Cordell. Along with her siblings; Steve Smith (Joni) and Anna Shroyer (Jeff) and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Tiffany Martin, her husband, John Hegle and parents, Henry and Irma Smith.

A memorial service will be held at Ruston Chapel, in Tacoma, Washington, on Thursday, December 9th from 11am-2pm, with the eulogy at 12pm. Betty requested her ashes to be spread on our adventures in life – for those who would like to join the family in sharing her ashes with the Puget Sound, the family will be driving to Les Davis Pier following her memorial at 2pm.
