Joe R. Nelson, 87 of Morton, IL died at 2:29 am Thursday, December 2, 2021 at Unity Point Methodist in Peoria, IL. Born on January 21, 1934 in Dakota, NE to Charles M. and Elsie Friedrichsen Nelson, he married Margie June Malchert on Sept 6, 1952 in Fulton County, AR. She preceded him in death on May 22, 1993. He later married Carole Osborn on May 7, 1994. She preceded him in death on February 23, 2021. In addition, Joe was preceded in death by both parents, 1 son, Joseph and 1 daughter, Julia Frawley, his brother Herbert Nelson and his sister Della Carson. Surviving Joe is one son, Jim (Debera) Nelson of Eureka, IL; his son-in-law Mike Frawley of Bloomington, IL; grandchildren Ben Sayer, Stacee Doyle, Josh Drummond, Emily Graber, Shelby Nelson and many great-grandchildren. Also surviving are step-son, Stephen D. Osborn; step-daughters Elizabeth C. (Kyle) Mountjoy, Diane R. (Jacob) Sands, Jaime D. (Joe) Cline, step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren. Joe will be missed by all. After graduation from Washington High School, Joe worked at Caterpillar Tractor Co. and then was a Carpet Layer for over 30 years. He and Margie also owned/ran Margie’s Diner restaurant in Eureka. His faith was important to him, having placed his trust in JESUS in his 30’s. He took his family to worship regularly, could be heard singing hymns on the job and actively served at several churches over the years. Cremation rites will be accorded and inurnment will be at Glendale Cemetery in Washington at a later date. Deiters Funeral Home and Crematory is assisting the family with arrangements.
