Harold (Doug) Jones, Sr., of Rome, NY has gone to be with our Lord, Jesus Christ, on Monday, November 29, 2021. He was born May 9, 1942 in Ava, NY, the son of the late Clayton and Jesse (Miner) Jones. He was enlisted in the Navy in his younger years and worked diligently as a carpenter, including working in the Union. He had a passion for boating and fishing, spending many days on Delta Lake with his family. He also enjoyed RVing which enabled him to travel to Nebraska to pick up his grandson, Matthew. Although having limitations (due to COPD) to pursue the many dreams he had, he courageously fought to wake up each day to live, to make the best of it, thanking God for what he had. This, I believe, was his gift. On November 19, 1966 he entered into marriage with Nancy A. Bingham. He is survived by his three children, Wendi Jones, Doug Jones, Jr. and Douglas Leitenberger (from Germany); and grandchildren, Matthew Jones, Justin Jones and Alyssa Jones. He is also survived by three sisters, Adeline (Jones) Bishopp; Gladys (Jones) Smith and Neda (Jones) Bauer, and two brothers, Emery Jones and Warren Jones and predeceased by Marian (Jones) Premo; Edith Jones, Millicent Jones, Robert Jones, Frances Jones, Catherine Jones O’Neil and Alice (Jones) Henley. Doug’s family would like to thank his caregiver, Alisa Arno-Butts, for her wonderful care and compassion. Family and friends are invited to call at Nunn and Harper Funeral Home, Inc., 418 N. George St., Rome, on Saturday, December 4th from 12-2:00 p.m. Pastor Ned Paquette will share thoughts and prayers at the conclusion of visiting hours. Interment will take place in Evergreen Cemetery.
