Earl Lloyd Miller Obituary

Earl Lloyd Miller, age 70, went home peacefully in his sleep on November 30, 2021.  He was born in Danville, Illinois on March 22, 1951, the youngest of four siblings to Donald Leonard Miller and Dorothy Jane Lloyd Smith.  Lloyd joined the Army at the age of 17 and served his country for three years in Frankfort, Germany working as a Morse Code Specialist and a C.O.'s Driver.

In 1977, he began his career as a factory working, making cans and worked nearly all the different departments at Continental/US Can, later to become Ball Corporation.  He ended his 34-year career as a line maintainer on July 22, 2011.  After his retirement from the can company, he worked as a driver for Courtesy Ford.

He married Brenda Ann Passavage on June 18, 1977; she survives.  Also surviving are two children, Brent Lloyd (Yetta) Miller of Muncie, Indiana and Valerie Michelle (Chris) Garver of Charleston, Illinois.  He is the proud PaPa of his nine-year-old grand baby girl, Olivia Jane Garver.  He is also survived by his sister, Christa (Carl) Robertson of Tilton, IL.  He played an active role in the lives of his nephews and nieces, whom he loved very much:  Donny and Kathy; Shane, Janie and LeaAnne; Amy, Matt and Mark.  Uncle Lloyd, Great Uncle Lloyd and Great Great Uncle Lloyd will be surely missed by all of them and their families.  Preceding Lloyd in death is his infant son, G.W., his brother, Donald Kenneth (Butch) Miller and his sister, Marta Suzanne (Tootie) Meers.

He loved being involved in his children's lives by coaching little league baseball.   He also coached elementary boys basketball and girls basketball at First Baptist School.  He spent a lot of time cheering on Fighting Illini sports and the Chicago Cubs and Bears and has passed that love down to his children. He loved family camping vacations every year which included spring break road trips. Upon his retirement and kids going off to college, he got back into one of his most favorite past times, motorcycle riding.  He became active in the Illinois Patriot Guard and then served in the Danville Chapter of the American Legion, Legion Riders as their Membership Chairman and later Vice President.  Another favorite past time was perfecting the world's greatest pulled pork sandwich.

Services for Lloyd Miller will be held on Tuesday, December 7th at 10:00 am.  Visitation will be Monday, December 6th from 5:00 to 8:00 pm, with Legion Riders presenting military honors.  Both will be held at Sunset Funeral Home with Lloyd's son, Pastor Brent Miller officiating.  Burial will be at the National Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to Legion Riders/Danville Chapter.
