Thomas “Tom” Bornhoft Sr., 90, of Fleming, CO passed away Dec. 1, 2021. Rosary service will be held at 7 PM, Monday Dec. 6 at St. Peter Catholic Church in Fleming. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 AM, Tuesday Dec. 7 at St. Peter Catholic Church with Father Jerry Rohr celebrating. Inurnment will follow at St. Peter Cemetery. Tom was born to Jack and Lizzie (Hundepohl) Bornhoft in rural Brush, CO on March 6, 1931. He graduated from Fleming High School in 1949. Tom was in the Korean war from 1/9/52- 10/53 in the 2nd Infantry Division. Tom worked at Standard Oil, Sterling, and then farmed in Fleming. On Nov.7, 1953 he married Kathleen Schaefer at St. Peter Catholic Church in Fleming. They were married for 68 years. Tom was a board member of the VFW, Rural Fire Dept., founding member of F&H Golf Club, and St. Peter’s Church. He also planted trees and grass plots for wildlife habitat for 20+ years. Tom enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing and playing cards. Tom lived his life loving his God, his country, his wife and family with honesty, integrity, lots of humor, and was loyal to a fault. Tom is survived by his wife Kathleen; children Becky (Jim Smoot) Bornhoft, Sally (Rick) Rigel, Gloria Bornhoft Bergner, Lisa (Chris) Meyette, Tommy (Sheri) Bornhoft, Marty (Cheri) Bornhoft, Dianne (Rob) Rensink; brothers Leonard (Frieda) Bornhoft, and Corky (Trilla) Bornhoft; sister Frances Boerner; sister-in-law Mary Beth Pyle; brothers-in-law Larry (Joyce) Schaefer, Dick (Lyn) Schaefer and Killian (Iva) Schaefer; 21 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild. Tom was preceded in death by his parents Jack and Lizzie Bornhoft; in-laws Lawrence and Ella Schaefer; sisters Esther (Frank) Schaefer, Romoulda Bornhoft, Mary (Dick) Wernsman; brothers Hank Bornhoft, Paul (Darlene) Bornhoft, Norbert (Georgian) Bornhoft; brothers-in-law Dale Pyle, Jim Boerner, a great grandchild and several nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Tom’s name may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, care of Tennant Funeral Home, PO Box 1547, Sterling, CO 80751.
