Lois Evelyn "Flip" Wood Heaton Obituary
Lois Evelyn" Flip" Wood Heaton, 97, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 2, 2021.
She was a native and resident of Andrews, North Carolina in Cherokee County.
Evelyn attended Ward-Belmont College in Nashville, Tennessee with a major in music. Evelyn utilized her musical talent by playing the organ for the family church for over 25 years. She was an active member of the Andrews United Methodist Church. “Flip” is also fondly remembered for running the Andrews community swimming pool at the airport for many years.
Evelyn was the daughter of the late Edgar A. Wood, Sr. and Lena Walker Wood. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Robert Earl Heaton and her brother Edgar A. Wood, Jr., who died October 5, 2008.
Surviving are her son, Robert Edgar Heaton and his wife, Roslyn; a daughter Elaine Heaton Goff; one grandson Justin Goff and wife, Emily; one great- granddaughter Scarlett and a great-grandson, Henry; and a niece and several nephews.
A brief interment service will be held on Monday, September 4, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. at Valleytown Cemetery in Andrews, North Carolina.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests any donations be made to the United Methodist Church in Andrews or the Community Samaritan Fund at Tryon Estates, PO Box 2222, Fort Washington, PA 19034.

For the last five years, Evelyn has been a resident of the Tryon Estates Community in Columbus, NC. “Flip” will be remembered for her friendly personality and for her kindness and compassion she had for all those who knew her. Her family would like to acknowledge and thank the staff at Tryon for the support, many kindnesses and help to make her time there a wonderful one.
