Jean Sather Obituary

Longtime Soldotna resident Jean Sather, 79, passed away Thursday, Nov. 4, 2021, in Soldotna. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date. Jean was born Aug. 3, 1942, in Grand Forks, N. Dakota. She moved to Soldotna in 1967. She worked at Central Peninsula Hospital for 36 years in laundry, housekeeping and was also a courier. Jean was a charter member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Kenai Fraternal Order of Eagles, lifetime member of the AmVets and VFW, member of the Soldotna Elks Club and a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Soldotna. Her family wrote, “Jeannie was a loyal, generous wife and mother, who was always baking homemade breads, desserts, cookies and meals to share with family and friends for birthdays, holidays, and special occasions and she loved to make crafts year-round.” “She enjoyed riding in the Soldotna Progress Days Parade with her floats and driving her 1968 Plymouth Sport Fury. She loved wearing hats and was known as the Hat Lady when she worked at the Hospital. She will be remembered as a wonderful wife and mother who always made sure we had what we needed.” Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Rose Effhauser, brothers, Kenny, Junie and Joey, and sisters, Virgie, Lorraine, Rosy and Joanie. She is survived by her husband, Kenneth Sather of Soldotna; daughters, Gail Sather of Sterling, Brenda Havens and husband, Dennis of Asotin, Wash., and Wanda Mendenhall and husband, Michael, of Kenai; sister, Theresa Allard and husband, Richard of East Grand Forks, N. Dakota; brother, Ronnie Effhauser and wife, Sandy of Mentor, Minn.; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Arrangements by Peninsula Memorial Chapel in Kenai.
