Vicki Jean Routledge

Vicki Jean Routledge, 71, Bismarck, ND formerly of Glenburn, ND passed away on Sunday, November 28, 2021 in a Bismarck Hospital. Vicki Jean (Bennett) Routledge was born March 31, 1950 in Minot, ND. She was the eldest of five children born to Harry and Rosemarie (Stromberg) Bennett.             Vicki attended 1st grade at Longfellow Elementary School. The family moved to Glenburn in 1957, then out to Grilley Township in 1961. Vicki attended church and school in Glenburn and graduated from GHS in 1968.             Vicki continued her education at Minot State where she was a member of the Minot State Marching Band. She proudly marched in the 1969 Rose Bowl Parade in Pasadena, CA.             Vicki was united in marriage to Paul Routledge on August 31, 1973. They were blessed to welcome two children into their lives. Heather Marie was born on July 12, 1974 and Matthew Paul was born on September 15, 1980. Vicki was their greatest supporter, biggest fan, hand to hold and shoulder to cry on. Heather and Matt always knew their mother was praying for them and would do anything she could to make their lives better, no matter the sacrifice.             In 1990, Vicki returned to Minot State and earned her degree in elementary education. She taught Title I classes for many years. Before earning her degree, she taught elementary music classes. She loved her colleagues at GHS, and could often be seen on the sidelines cheering for her beloved Panthers. She loved her students and she kept in touch with, and continued to encourage them long after they left GHS. She taught them so much more than just the required material, she taught them to be kind and respectful, patient and forgiving. She cared for her students as if they were her own children. By the time Vicki retired in 2015, she had dedicated 28 years of her life to Glenburn Public School.             Her retirement found her living for three years in Fargo with Heather and three years in Bismarck to be near Matt. She attended her grandchildren’s concerts, sporting events, musicals, plays, confirmations and spent time with friends and family. Family meant the world to Vicki. She was so proud of her children and grandchildren, and she told them so whenever she had the opportunity.             Music was an important part of Vicki’s life. She learned to play piano and saxophone and she loved to sing. She accompanied many choir performances both at church and school. She played piano for countless weddings, funerals, baptisms, and holidays. She especially loved playing for Christmas Eve services. Vicki taught piano lessons for over thirty years and touched many lives through sharing her talents and love of music.             Vicki also enjoyed reading, writing, crossword puzzles, family time at the lake, traveling, gardening, baking, and spending time with friends and family. She was involved in Jayceettes and Homemakers and volunteered much of her time to Trinity Lutheran Church serving as a council member, choir member, Sunday school teacher, and organist.              Vicki’s faith in the Lord was constant as she served Him and many others through her generosity and loving actions. On November 28, 2021, her work was complete here on earth when her Lord called His good and faithful servant home to rest in His loving arms. Vicki’s children and their families would like to express their gratitude for the friendship and joy you all brought to her life. If she knew you, she loved you.
