Harold MacEachern, New Waterford

Harold Ian “Hoopie” MacEachern, 59 of New Waterford passed away on Tuesday, November 30, 2021, surrounded by his family, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. Born in New Waterford, he was a son of the late Harold and Jeanette (Pirotte) MacEachern. Harold was a plumber by trade but was a jack of all trades and spent many years working in the west. Driving taxi was his true calling and he enjoyed his time in that job. He was a good man who loved and was loved by his family and many friends. He was a member of the former Mount Carmel Parish and was an altar server as a young boy. Hoopie maintained his sense of humor to the “VERY” end. Surviving is his wife, Tara; his daughters, Amy (Michael), Jill (Russell), Ashley (Joe); sisters, Janet (Donnie), Joanne (George); brothers, Terry (Val) and Bernie (Sharon); grandchildren, Braiden, Kailee, Claire, Nora and Hunter. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, Brian, Glen, Michael, and Bradley. There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith Street, New Waterford, where a service will be held on Saturday, December 4, 2021 at 10:00 am with Father Peter McLeod officiating. Masks and proof of double vaccination are required. Memorial donations in Hoopie’s memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or to a charity of choice.
