Mildred "Milly" Swails Gee Obituary

Mildred Swails Gee Mildred “Milly” Irene Swails Gee, 93, of Midwest City, Oklahoma, died peacefully at home in her sleep on Saturday, November 27, 2021. Milly was born November 5, 1928, in Oklahoma City, OK, to her parents, Oliver Wesley “Hap” and Irene (Holland) Swails. Milly lived in numerous homes in Oklahoma City and Edmond, with most of her youth spent in Edmond, OK. Milly graduated from Edmond High School with the Class of 1946. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from Central State College in 1949 and a Master of Education degree from her beloved University of Oklahoma in 1953. 1950 was an eventful year for Milly when she married Thomas Richard “Dick” Gee of Pampa, Texas on August 25, 1950. They moved to Roswell, New Mexico in September where Milly began her 40-year-long teaching career. In 1953, Dick began basic training in Maryland and Milly took a teaching job that year in Baltimore. While Dick was overseas in Korea, Milly returned to Oklahoma and began teaching for Mid-Del Schools at Traub Elementary in 1954 and she retired from teaching at Soldier Creek Elementary in 1990. Milly and Dick joined Midwest Boulevard Christian Church in 1960 where she was an active member until it closed in 2019. Milly participated in the Christian Women’s Fellowship, where she held numerous offices. After she retired, Milly was able to actively participate in yoga and water aerobics at the Tinker YMCA, take art classes at Rose State College, tend to her roses and African violets, and play dominos with her dear, longtime friends every Friday. Milly loved being an OU Women’s Basketball season ticket holder and attending games with her friends and family. Milly was a caring daughter, devoted wife, and loving mother. While her parents were living in Edmond, Milly took her three children to see their grandparents every weekend. For family vacations, Dick and Milly loved camping by ‘pitching a tent’ with their young children, mainly at Platt National Park in Davis, OK. Then, in their retirement years, when they were not using their OU season football tickets for home games, they took their camper and traveled across the United States. Milly enjoyed genealogy, reading, and working the newspaper’s daily crossword puzzle and cryptoquote. She was a talented artist whose beautiful paintings and sketches were admired by all. Milly is predeceased by her parents, husband of 47 years, and one infant grandson, Doug Hale. Milly is survived by three children and (their spouses): Kathy (Jim) Simmons of Midwest City, OK; Tom (Susan) Gee of Norman, OK; and Linda (Paul) Hale of Sulphur, OK. Nine grandchildren and [twelve great-grandchildren]: Abbey (Chris) Lawson [Beckett and Collins]; Molly (Ahmet Karabulut) Simmons; Amanda Gee [Maliyah, Ezekiel, Asher]; Tommy (Candi) Gee [Conner, Leilani and Harmoni]; Max (Nathan Gardner) Patterson; Andrew Patterson; J.W. (Danielle) Patterson [Bryton and Maverick]; Chris (Jamee) Hale [Ashton, Hazel, and Lincoln]; and Laura Hale. A memorial service will be held Sunday, December 5, 2021, at 2:00 at First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ); 11950 E. Reno Avenue; Midwest City, OK 73130 with The Reverend Gary Mitchell presiding. A reception will immediately follow the service. A graveside service will be at a later date at Arlington Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Milly Gee’s name to the Memorial Fund at First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Midwest City (mailing address above) or https://ppay.co/dT2PQjalJUY
