Oren was born in Brandywine, MS on November 27,1929 to the late Oren Sr. and Frances Segrest. He later moved to Port Gibson and graduated from Port Gibson HS. He attended the University of Mississippi for two years before transferring to Mississippi State A&M as it was called at that time. He graduated in 1951 with a BS in Animal Science. While at MSU A&M he met and shortly after graduation married Marjorie Ann Fox and they shared many happy years until her death from cancer in May of 1994. After ROTC, he was commissioned a 2nd Lt in the United States Air Force and flew F86 jets in Germany until his discharge in 1955. After his discharge the two moved to Port Gibson where Oren joined his father in the family business. In 1972 he became the Mississippi State Director of Purchasing and remained there until his retirement in 1993. Oren later met and married Shirley Albritton and they were married for 26 years until his death.

He enjoyed multiple hobbies and there were too many to list. He was an accomplished artist and a world renowned duck carver. Oren earned multiple awards in both the professional world and the art world, but his biggest joy was his family. He was affectionately known as Dad-O to all his family and loved nothing more than the time spent with his children, grand-children and his great grandchildren. He loved the Lord and always mentioned how blessed he was in all things and gave thanks always. He leaves a legacy for all his family to cherish and his was truly an example of a “life well lived”.

He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, Marjorie Fox Segrest, and his sister, Gloria Segrest Brown. He is survived by his wife, Shirley A. Segrest, his children, Dr. David R.
