Obituary

We announce with profound sadness that Lucille A. “Gabe” Shook, 92, of Duncan Falls, passed away peacefully on November 29, 2021 surrounded by her loving family at the Morrison House while under the care of Genesis Hospice.

Gabe was born in Belle Valley on October 10, 1929 to the late Elmer E. and Mary C. (Carpenter) McCune.  She graduated from Meigs High School in 1947.  On October 31, 1947 she married the love of her life, E. Dee Shook.  They spent nearly 50 years together on their farm in Meigs Township on FB Eye Drive, which was named after their prized racehorse.  After Dee’s passing she moved to Duncan Falls where her inviting house became a haven for many.

She was a devoted wife and beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.  She spent many years at square dances, sporting events, county fairs, and horse races.  She had a green thumb, a steady hand for painting, was an exceptional cook, had a creative eye for making holiday wreaths, and a knack for removing stains.  She was a sports enthusiast and loved listening to music.

She always provided support and love for her family.  She lived a full and happy life and passed down many great values and traits to her children and grandchildren.  She frequently shared how grateful she was for having such wonderful family and friends.

Gabe is survived by her two sons, Ronald (Carol) Shook and Jay Shook; her grandchildren, Jerry (Dawne) Shook, Beth (Nate Atkins) Shook, Adam (Brianne) Shook, Wesley (Tiffany) Shook, and Abbie (Bryson) Stair; her great grandchildren, Hayden, Isaac, Lauren, Logan, Paige, Spencer, Shepherd, and Mitchell; several nieces, nephews, and a very special niece, JoAnn Reigle.

In addition to her parents, Gabe is preceded in death by her husband, E. Dee Shook, who passed away February 6, 1996; her daughter-in-law, Mitzi M. Shook, who passed away January 23, 2020; her siblings, Geraldine (Minford) Rapp, Maxine (Charles) Spillman, Carl “Bud” (Charlotte) McCune, and Donna (Dale) Dingey.

Please consider making memorial contributions in Gabe’s name to Genesis Hospice, 713 Forrest Avenue, Zanesville, Ohio 43701.

Visitation will be 4 to 7 pm on Friday, December 3, 2021 at the Farus Funeral Home of Duncan Falls, where funeral services will be held at 10 am on Saturday.   Jennifer Johnston-Baker will officiate the service.  Gabe will be laid to rest next to her husband in the Duncan Falls Cemetery.
