Kathleen Mae Ashton Obituary

Kathleen Mae Ashton, 89, (fondly known as “Aunt Tootie”) died peacefully at home and moved on to her mansion in the sky on November 30, 2021 to receive her heavenly rewards. She was born on April 13, 1932 in Glengary at home to Allen Thurman Tyson and Virginia Belle Sharff Tyson, and lived her entire life in beautiful Back Creek Valley, a true West Virginia girl. On December 24, 1948 she married Daniel Clifton Ashton at the age of 16. They were married 62 years and 11 months until his passing on November 16, 2011.

She and Daniel worked the farm raising cattle, sheep and poultry while raising four children. She worked at Perfection Garment Factory. She delivered eggs to the Shenandoah Hotel. She also spent several years helping her sons in farmer’s markets in the DC and surrounding metropolitan areas. Customers nicknamed her “Peach Mama”. In 1987 she converted one of the farms into a very successful campground in Ganotown known as the Lazy A. People loved to come and camp just to be able to talk with her. She had lots of stories to tell. Kathleen was loved by so many. She loved to travel and visited many places with several of her dear friends.

She was a member of Central Chapel. Being an excellent student of the Word, she taught Sunday School and Bible study classes. Kathleen loved the Lord and believed His promises were true. She lived a life of selflessness and devotion.

In 2017 due to failing health, she went to live with her devoted daughter Kathie who was an outstanding care giver making sure her every need was met.

Kathleen is survived by her daughter Kathie Ashton; two sons, Larry Ashton (Margie) and Allen Ashton (Anne); two brothers, Thomas Tyson (Janice) and Clifford Tyson (Mary Kaye); eleven grandchildren, Alissa Fry (David), Abraham Ashton (Jennifer), Sarah Taylor (Jeff), Leigh Anne Vanderwijst (Ryan), Mariah Nims (Nelson), Ada Oates (Max), Noah Ashton, James Ashton, Dustin Ashton (Brittany), Joey Ashton, and Brandon Drenner; one daughter-in-law Kathy Marie Baume and eighteen great-grandchildren.
