Dennis Wolseth Minot, North Dakota Obituary

Dennis Wolseth

Dennis Wolseth, 78, Glenburn, ND, passed away Friday, November 26, 2021 at his residence.  Dennis was born October 13, 1943, the son of Sylvester and Inga (Hoiland) Wolseth, in Minot, ND.  Dennis was raised on the family farm near Wolseth, ND and attended Wolseth School until the 8th grade, he then attended Minot High School in Minot, ND, graduating in 1961.  Dennis enlisted in the United States Navy on October 3, 1961 . He proudly served his country during the Vietnam War. He was assigned to several ships, The USS Ranger CVA-61  and The USS Forrestal. He was honorably discharged on October 2, 1967.  He was awarded the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal for Vietnam along with many other awards.  After he returned from the Navy, Dennis attended Minot State University, graduating in 1971 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Math.     Dennis married Laura Friez on February 14, 1975 in Billings, MT. They had two daughters, Marnell and Karnell.  Dennis was the sales manager for Billings Ford Tractor in Billings, MT for many years.  During this time he was a member of the Rimrock Optimist Club in Billings, where he served as secretary/treasurer and later President.  When Dennis’s father passed away, Dennis moved Laura and the family from their new home in Billings, to the 100 year old farmstead at Wolseth.  Dennis began farming for his mother and also began his 40 years of working at Minot Air Force Base either with snow removal or missile site inspecting. Dennis enjoyed being with the guys and joking with them at the shop, his last year was 2020. Dennis had a stroke on October 4th and he had a hard time not going hunting this year.  He jokingly made a comment to his daughter, that they would starve this winter because he couldn’t go hunting.  Dennis has always loved guns and hunting was his passion.  We believe this was the hardest for him to think of giving up.  You will be missed, even your humor and wit.  Dennis was a traditionalist, he loved his country, farming, fishing and going to his cabin at Pick City.  Most of all, he loved his family. He was a member of the NRA (National Rifle Association, the DAV (Disabled American Veterans), the Elks, the VFW (Veteran’s of Foreign Wars) and the American Legion.  His  loving family includes:  wife of 46 years, Laura; Daughter, Karnell (Jason) Johnson: Son-in-law, Jodi Ell; grandchildren, Madison Ell, Kallie Wolseth, Megan Ell and Carter Johnson: brother, Ron (Judy) Wolsethsister, Sheryl (Jack) Burke: mother-in-law, Marilyn Friez; brother-in-law, Todd Friez: sister-in-law, Sharon Wolseth; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. To Dennis's family, I offer my condolences to you all. Though it has been a few years since I last saw Dennis, I remember very well working with him on snow removal at MAFB in the 1980's. Wonderful hard working man, dedicated to his job.
