OBITUARY:

Bonnie Marie Hayes was born September 14, 1934, in Maryville Missouri to Amos and Gertrude (Edwards) Hayes.

Bonnie grew up on a farm southeast of Clearmont, Missouri in "Toad Holler".  She attended country school and later graduated high school from Burlington Junction in May of 1952.

On June 29th, 1952, Bonnie married Calvin Carpenter. Son's Randy and Rodney were born while living near Clearmont. In 1959 they moved the family to Shenandoah, Iowa and eventually made their home in Essex.

They continued to live in the Shenandoah and Essex area the rest of their lives. They were married 64 years. Bonnie resided at Windsor Manor since Calvin's passing in 2016 where she enjoyed devotions, activities, visitors and phone calls from friends and family.

Bonnie often spoke of her childhood: riding a horse to country school, doing chores, and spending time with Gene, Jim and Joe Hayes, who were actually her nephews, but more like brothers.

She was a member of Clearmont Christian Church until becoming a member of Shenandoah Nishna Valley Christian Church.  Between the two churches, she taught Sunday School and VBS for over 50 years.

Bonnie was a homemaker and later worked for United Hagie seed corn, Henry Field and Earl May nurseries. She always said she wasn't a good cook but her chili, ham salad, Christmas punch, macaroni corn and carrot casserole are some family favorites still enjoyed today.

Preceding Bonnie in death were her parents; husband, Calvin; brother, Cecil Hayes; sister-in-law, Irene Hayes; nephew, Gene Hayes; and great granddaughter, Sydney Carpenter.

She is survived by her two sons, Randy (Tammie) Carpenter of Adel, IA and Rod (Diane) Carpenter of Farragut, IA; five grandchildren, Ryan (Kristi) Carpenter, Rusty Carpenter and Robbie Carpenter and Chad (Carmelina) Carpenter and Kylie (Phillip) Sharpe; eight great grandchildren, Jordyn Thompson, Calvin, Elijah, Kolby, Everly, Avery, Fitz and Rocco Carpenter; two nephews, Jim (Sandra) Hayes and Joe (Bonnie) Hayes; niece, Shirley Hayes; other relatives; and friends.
