Sally Ann Mernah Obituary

Sally Ann Mernah of Burke, VA passed away peacefully on November 24, 2021 after a valiant battle with numerous health issues, including Covid-19 that led to pulmonary  fibrosis.  She was surrounded by her loved ones. Vibrant, kind and caring, Sally lived life to the fullest. She was adored by John her husband of 38 years, dearly loved by her daughters Maggie (Brian) Kullenberg, Annie (Joe) Nielsen, Michelle Mernah and Alex Rudulph, and her precious grandchildren: Mickey, John Michael, Delaney Mae, Tommy, and Anna-Kate.  Survived by her devoted mom, Gloria Ann Summers, and a large loving Irish family with Sally pride and incredible family memories.  Sally was preceded in death by her beloved and courageous dad, Eddie Summers, of St. Louis, MO.

Sally loved the outdoors and all of God’s creation, especially gardening, which was a love she inherited from her dear dad. Sally loved exploring new places (specifically Washington DC and new beach areas), reading new and classical fiction books (primarily Harry Potter), crafting/sewing/quilting, and being a dedicated homemaker.

Sally had a background as a certified medical assistant with various medical office positions in St. Louis, and particularly enjoyed caring for newborns and children of all ages. When Sally moved to Burke, VA she became involved in supporting children through daycare and catholic school communities, such as Nativity and St. Bernadette’s, where her faith, joy, and laughter touched many lives. These family communities formed unique friendships and always held such a dear place in Sally’s heart.

As a mother and grandmother she provided guidance, love, and inspiration. She was a beautiful person, with a huge kind heart, and her bold, brassy, incredible determination is what will be remembered and cherished the most by her family and friends. Her loving spirit will continue to soar on eagle’s wings and she will forever be in our hearts.

A celebration of Sally’s life will be held at Nativity Catholic Church on December 11, 2021 at 11 am in Burke, VA. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the family’s Go Fund Me page for supporting additional senior care for Sally’s mother, Gloria.
