Robert W. "Bob" Mariner

Robert Warren “Bob” Mariner, 85, of Martinsville, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, November 27, 2021, at Indiana University Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis with family by his side. Bob was born on November 15, 1936, in Chillicothe, Ohio to the late Robert Lee Mariner and Edith (Allen) Burton. Bob graduated from Arsenal Technical High School in Indianapolis with the class of 1953. Shortly after, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served his country honorably until 1955. He married the love of his life and best friend, Christine Shipley, on August 21, 1981. He was no stranger to hard work and held many different jobs during his lifetime. He worked for Indianapolis Star Newspaper for over 48 years and retired as the distract sales supervisor. He owned and operated Robert Mariner’s Painting Company and Mariner’s Sales and Repair lawnmower business. Also, he was a fireman at Perry Township Fire Department. Most recently, Bob was working for Advantage Sales and Marketing and was serving samples at Kroger, Sam’s Club, and Walmart. He was always a friendly face and kind man no matter where you ran across him. Bob was a member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Martinsville. He enjoyed collecting stamps, collecting coins, and golfing. He had earned a Master Gardener title and greatly enjoyed gardening. Most importantly, Bob was a family man and loved his wife and their children. His family and all who knew him will miss his friendly face, quick wit, and warm laughter He leaves behind his family and friends including his wife, Chris Mariner of Martinsville; sons, Michael (wife, Kyle) Mariner of Indianapolis, Curt (wife, Kristi) Walters of Brownsburg, and Jonathan Mariner of Martinsville; daughters, Debbie (husband, Craig) Parsons of Indianapolis, Barbara Cravens of Indianapolis, Patricia Sparks (companion, Matthew) of Indianapolis, Amanda (husband, Jarrott) Lande of Eminence, and Tashona Cranfill of Shelbyville; 18 grandchildren; many great grandchildren; and several great great grandchildren. Bob was preceded in death by his mother and father, Robert and Edith; son, Charles “Chuck” Mariner; and brothers, Charles Mariner and Richard “Scott” Mariner. Family and friends are invited to visit from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm on Sunday, December 5, 2021, at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Martinsville. A memorial service will follow at the church beginning at 3:00 pm. The church will host a meal following the service. In keeping with Bob’s wishes, his earthly remains have been cremated.
