James H. (Jim) Taylor, 87, of Dumas, passed away early Sunday afternoon, November 28, 2021. A family visitation will be held at Beeson Morrison Funeral Directors on Thursday, December 2, 2021 from 5 -7 o’clock in the evening. A memorial service is scheduled for 2 o’clock in the afternoon on Friday, December 3, 2021 at Morrison Memorial Chapel with Pastor Keith Hight officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Beeson-Morrison Funeral Directors. Jim was born June 22, 1934, in Healdton, OK to Maple E. and Lillie (Lewis) Taylor. After graduating high school, Jim honorably served his country in the United States Marine Corps. On February 12, 1955 he married the love of his life, Colleen McPherson in Chase, KS, and they would celebrate 66 wonderful years together. They made Dumas their home and he worked for El Paso Natural Gas, retiring after 37 years. Jim had a passion for scouting and served as scoutmaster for Troop 137, twice attending the scout jamboree. He and Colleen became avid hockey fans and faithfully supported all of the Amarillo teams. James was also very involved in a 50-year journey into the many appendant bodies of masonry where he served in many offices including Worshipful Master of Dumas Lodge, High Priest and Thrice Illustrious Master as well as Commander of the Amarillo Chapter, Council and Commandry in York Rite. He served as the area’s district representative for these bodies and was honored by being invested in the Knights Commander of the Court of Honor and their distinctive red cap, as well as being Past Sovereign for the order of Red Cross of Constantine. He was a member of Hunt United Methodist Church in Dumas and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. He is preceded in death by: his parents Maple and Lillie, sisters: Helen Link, Margaret Doll, and Mary Johnson; and brothers: Bill, Jack and Mapel Taylor. Jim is survived by his wife Colleen of the home: daughter: Tonya Scarborough and husband Billy of Dumas; son: James Taylor Jr and wife Janet Jung of Amarillo, TX; grandchildren: Craig Scarborough and wife Stacy Jones of Dumas, Chris Scarborough and wife Leila of Amarillo, TX, Jessie Brooks of Amarillo, TX, Alex, Kortney, and Carmie Jung all of Amarillo, TX; 8 great grandchildren and many numerous family and friends. The family suggests, with gratitude that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to a favorite charity.
