Denny Nelson Obituary

Denny Nelson, 75 year old Woodward resident, passed away Tuesday, November 30, 2021 at his home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 3, 2021 at the First Assembly of God Church with his son, Reverend Lance Nelson, Reverend Brad Smith and Bishop Terry Wiles officiating. Burial will follow in the Elmwood Cemetery with the United States Air Force providing military rites. The family will receive friends at the Billings Funeral Home on Thursday, December 2, 2021 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.

Dennis Wayne Nelson was born on September 4, 1946 in Woodward, Oklahoma to Roy Burton and Pearl Opal (Shobert) Nelson. Denny grew up in Woodward and graduated with the class of 1965. He was united in marriage to Carole Gaston on August 27, 1966 in Woodward, Oklahoma. They made their first home in Hampton, Virginia. Denny served in the United States Air Force from 1966 until his honorable discharge in 1969. He was stationed at Langley Air Force Base. After his military service, they moved back to Woodward where he went to work for Tru VU Cable TV as a technician. He later became the Manager and continued working there until his retirement in 1995. During his retirement, Denny enjoyed transporting cars for local car dealerships. He enjoyed the comradery of his driving buddies.

He was a long time faithful member of the First Assembly of God Church. Denny enjoyed coaching little league football at Kids Inc and he loved bragging about all the championships his kids won and all the talented boys he got to coach. But mostly, he loved bragging on his kids and grandkids. He was fiercely loyal and it was a big mistake to bad mouth any of his family, friends, or his church. Denny loved OU football and he never met a stranger. He also enjoyed his daily visits to Sweets for the meeting of the minds session. Among his many friends at these sessions was his friend Roger Edwards. He also had a beautiful voice and loved singing in quartets.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Carole Nelson of the home; three sons, Steve Nelson of Rogers, Arkansas, Lance Nelson and wife Lindsey of Hot Springs, Arkansas, Jason Nelson and wife Jessica of Yukon; nine grandchildren: Logan Nelson, Chance Nelson, Jade Morales, Sylvia Nelson, Seryna Nelson, Michael Morales and wife Kristin, Sterling Morales, Beth Nelson, Abby Nelson; two great-grandchildren, Vincent Morales and Stryker Morales; one brother, Mike Nelson and wife Anita of Dallas, Texas; one sister, Jan Nelson Greer of Wichita, Kansas; other relatives and many friends.

Denny was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Pearl Nelson, brother, Butch Nelson, sisters, Norma Rhoades and Connie Campbell and his beloved grandson, Jake Nelson.
