Eleanor Marcey McLaughlin

St. Johns, FL Eleanor Mary McLaughlin (Marcey), age 94, formerly of Sayreville, peacefully passed away on Monday, November 29, 2021 at her home in Florida. Born and raised in South Amboy to the late Joseph and Elizabeth Marcey, Eleanor lived there until she was married to the love of her life on April 21, 1946. She and Bob lived in Brunswick, GA while he served in the US Navy, later settling in Sayreville where they raised their 4 children. After retiring Eleanor and Bob relocated to Seminole, Florida so they could be close to the beach, which they both enjoyed immensely. After Bob’s passing, Eleanor decided to move to St. Johns, Florida to be closer to family. She was a devout Catholic and was a parishioner of San Juan Del Rio RC Church in St. Johns, Florida and a former parishioner of Our Lady of Victories RC Church in Sayreville. Eleanor was a proud homemaker, but also held secretarial jobs throughout the years with several local companies including Superior Air Products, Sunshine Biscuit, and Rutgers University, along with serving as president of Our Lady of Victories PTA. Eleanor participated in a number of bowling leagues in both New Jersey and Florida and enjoyed crocheting and traveling with Bob. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and so much more. It was a blessing to have her in our lives for 94 years, and she will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Mom and Dad are together again, dancing the polka. Eleanor is predeceased by her beloved husband Robert McLaughlin, Sr., her dear son Robert McLaughlin, Jr., and by her siblings Veronica Nemeth, Helen Hahn, and Joseph Marcey. Surviving are her loving daughters and their spouses Carol McLaughlin of Englewood, FL, Nancy and Gene Kolisnyk of St. Johns, FL, and Barbara and Don Kaczmarek of Sayreville; her loving daughter-in-law Karen McLaughlin of Forked River; and by her 10 wonderful grandchildren and 5 dear great-grandchildren. Funeral services are scheduled for 9:30am on Saturday, December 11 from the Maliszewski Memorial Home, 121 Main St, Sayreville with a 10am Mass at Our Lady of Victories RC Church in Sayreville. Burial will immediately follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Toms River. Calling hours at the funeral home will take place on Friday, December 10 from 3pm to 7pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Eleanor’s name to State of New Jersey, Department of Military and Veterans Affairs, Veteran’s Haven North, 200 Sanatorium Road, Suite 101, Glen Gardner, NJ 08826, Attn: Valerie Barbour. Veteran’s Haven North operates a two-year transitional housing program. The ultimate goal is to support veterans in developing a permanent solution to their homelessness.
