Scott West Obituary

Scott David West, age 63, of Platte City, MO passed away November 27th at 6 a.m. at his home surrounded by his wife and two daughters. Scott was born June 1st, 1958 in Savannah, MO to Earl West and Margaret West-Dierolf. On September 29th, 1979 he married Kathy West in Kansas City, MO. He is proceeded in death by his father, Earl, Mother-in-law Norma Salyer, and Father-in-law Frank Salyer. He is survived by his mother, Margaret Dierolf; wife, Kathy West; daughters, Kristin, Ashley and Honey West; brother Brad (Lisa) West; sister, Terri Stephens, brothers-in-law, Mark (Inez) and Glen Salyer and numerous loving nieces, nephews and granddogs. Scott worked for Kansas City Power and Light in Iatan, MO from 1980 until he retired in November of 2020. Away from work, Scott was constantly “scooting” around working on projects restoring old campers, old boats, old motorcycles, etc. to their former glory (kind of). He had a love of nature and could often be found cruising down the Platte River on one of the afore mentioned boats. A family vacation in 2011 to Oahu sparked his love of waters beyond those found in Missouri. Many trips were made with daughters and sometimes wife to the Big Island of Hawaii and Exuma, Bahamas where he was able to let Vacation Scott shine. He loved being the Captain on the open ocean with his daughters as the crew, and only almost sank them once. He was a self-proclaimed “idea guy” and enjoyed brainstorming business ideas with his daughters that would never come to fruition because unfortunately, there are no “doers” in the family. On September 6, 2018 Scott was diagnosed with Stage 4 lung cancer. He was able to enjoy nearly three good years until an episode in March 2021 made his day-to-day activities a challenge. Even in the worst of times he never once complained. He was “blown away” by the outpouring of love and support from friends and family. Scott was full of life and love and will be missed beyond words. Scooter was frugal and forbid his family to waste money on a funeral. He will be laid to rest with a small graveside service at the Platte City Cemetery at 2pm on Sunday, December 5th. There will be a celebration of his life after the ceremony at 9511 N Kenwood Ave, Kansas City, MO 64155. Family and friends are welcome. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Kansas City Pet Project or the Marc Stevens Legal Fund (if ya know ya know).
