Obituary

Lillian Eldora Thomas was born to parents John Willie and Naomi Mack (nee Watson) on August 7, 1927 in Statham, Georgia.   Lillian passed away on Saturday, November 27, 2021, in Middletown, Ohio. She was 94 years old.

A native of Georgia, Lillian moved to Middletown Ohio during the 1950’s, and has resided as a member of the community for almost seven decades.  Lillian began to study the Bible with Jehovah’s Witnesses, and came to appreciate that God’s name is Jehovah, and that by means of Christ Jesus, there would be a wonderful future in store for righteous mankind.  Lillian dedicated her life to Jehovah God and was baptized in 1972. She was a long-time member of the Highland Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Middletown, Ohio.

Lillian lived a long and happy life. She was loved by her family, and a vast number of friends.  Lillian will be remembered by her son, James Robert Davenport, Sr., daughter-in-law Thelma Davenport, her brothers-in-law Jasper Thomas (Florine), Ennoris Thomas (Martha), her eight grandchildren (Frederica, Frankie, Jackie, Jack, James Jr., Myreon, Orlando, and Yolanda), twenty-three great-grandchildren, twelve great-great grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews, all of whom she loved dearly.

Lillian is preceded in death by her loving husband of 40 years, Robert H. Thomas, father and mother, John Willie and Naomi Mack, brothers George Washington Mack, Willie Clifford Mack (Gladys), James H. Mack (Ozelia), sister Marjorie (nee Mack) Thomas (E.L.), former husband Charlie Davenport, sister-in-law, Rebbie Thomas, and step-great-grandson, Keith M. Clark.

Lillian, called “Granny” by many, was known by the laughs she shared and the hugs she gave.  Lillian’s past employment included working at the Water Refining Co. in Middletown, a cabinet manufacturing company, as well as working as a caregiver before eventually retiring.  She was a kind, loving individual, who was a wonderful cook, and could bake a mean sweet potato pie – although she always said, “Sis makes them better than me.”  She loved baseball, having watched her brothers play when growing up, and rooted for the Cincinnati Reds.

Lillian has lost many close friends and family over the years, and she is leaving behind many more.  However, she had strong faith in God’s promise of “a new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness is to dwell.”  We look forward to seeing her there.  For all of us who loved her, she will be missed.
