A Memorial Service for Verna  Speerbrecker, age 91 beloved wife of Norman Speerbrecker of Yorkton, was held on Saturday December 4, at 1:00 pm from the chapel at Christie's Funeral Home and Crematorium in Yorkton with Fr. Louis Kim Nguyen officiating.

Verna Sheila Patricia Speerbrecker age 91 of Yorkton Sask, died 11:15 am, Monday, November 29, 2021 at the Malinowski House(Yorkton & District Nursing Home) in Yorkton, SK.  She was born on October 2, 1930 in Bruno, SK., to Fred & Sophie (Stahl) Turner.

Verna grew up in Bruno SK, attending Saint Ursula’s Academy in Bruno, followed by a nursing education at the Queen Elizabeth College in Humboldt SK.  Verna’s nursing career took her to various small towns in Saskatchewan (Humboldt, Hudson Bay, Craig, Davidson, Wascana Centre Regina).  She marrried Norman Speerbrecker on April 18, 1960.  Their family was completed by their arrival of their children, David (Nov 7, 1964) & Dyan (May 24, 1966).  Verna enjoyed being a homemaker; she later combined all her skills to help in the hospitality industry that the family ventured into from 1972 to 2003.  Verna enjoyed many years of retirement after the sale of their last business. During their 61 years of marriage Norman and Verna enjoyed travelling, visiting with family and friends and enjoying their grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Verna’s enjoyed hobbies of ceramics, crafts, bowling, tile rummy, cards, reading

She was a member of the Catholic Woman’s League and an usher in church, and she enjoyed volunteering for various curling events (2 Brier, 2 Scotties, and The Continental Cup & Pinty’s Grandslam). Verna was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother & great grandmother.

Verna is predeceased by her parents Fred and Sophie Turner, her brothers Vernon (Verna’s twin) and Gregory; sisters Rosalie Krentz and Carol Ann Turner and her brother -in-law Dennis Krentz.

Left to mourn Verna and celebrate her life is her husband Norman; son Dave Speerbrecker, wife Margo & children Joshua & Shantel (Nathan); daughter Dyan Stelmaschuk, husband Jerry, children Ryan (Ally) & Scott (Ken); great grandchildren, Theodor & Clementine (Joshua Speerbrecker); her brothers Doug (Adrianna) Turner, Kelowna BC & Jack (Sylvia) Turner, Nokomis, SK as well her sister-in-law Doreen Turner (Vernon).

Memorial contributions may be made to the Malinowski House – Yorkton District Nursing Home.

Interment of Verna’s ashes will be at a later date (possibly in Nokomis, with Parents and Siblings).
