Queenie Elizabeth Dixon

Mrs. Queenie Elizabeth Blakely Dixon, the daughter of the late James Monroe Blakley and Lydia Ann Pope Blakley, was born on September 28, 1925. Queenie was the fourth of six children born to the Blakely union.

She professed Jesus Christ at an early age and joined East St Peter M.B. Church in 1935, where she remained a faithful and dedicated member throughout her life. She served on the Mother Board (former President), Mission Ministry (President 13 years), Usher Board, and was an Honorary Member of the Adult (Sanctuary) Choir, which she founded in 1971. She was a dedicated worker in the T.O.M.B. Association—serving on the Usher Board and District Choir to name a few. She received a Certificate of Appreciation “For Faithful Service as an Usher,” February 4, 2004. She was Secretary of the T.O.M.B.A. Women’s Auxiliary 12 years and received a Certificate of Appreciation for her services on May 28, 2005. She also received a Hall of Fame Award “For over 70 years of service to her church, district, and state convention” from the T.O.M.B.A District Women’s Auxiliary in 2012. Queenie also served as chairman of the Arts & Crafts Committee of Women’s State Auxiliary of the MS New Education State Convention. She attended numerous National Baptist Congress of Christian Education classes and received a five-year Teaching Certificate in 1999 and taught at the District Level.

Queenie was a seamstress by profession. Her mother taught her how to sew when she was 12. She sewed for her 6 girls, even the boys sport coats, and suits for her husband. She sewed for the public---Sororities, Fraternities, College Hill Academy, and individuals---until muscle problems forced her to stop sewing professionally. She also taught sewing lessons for the Oxford Park Commission. She said that sewing was a gift from God. She also loved to cook. She baked cakes and pies for the public, and for her family and friends.

Queenie was active in civic and fraternal organizations: She was a member of Mississippi Homemakers Volunteers since 1968, serving as President 2 years, secretary 6 years, and parliamentarian 10 years. She received numerous service awards over the years. She was also a member of Eastside MHV Club for many years serving as president 20 years, then subsequently vice president. She won numerous awards from MHV in local & state fashion shows for garments she made. She was Secretary of the MHV Homemaker’s Advisory Council 4 years and served on the Lafayette County Curriculum Board for one year. She joined the Order of the Eastern Star Philadelphia Chapter #277 in 1965 and served as Secretary for 26 years, receiving a Plaque “For Dedicated Service” April 1992. In 2017 she received Order of the Eastern Star Golden Star Award for many years of dedicated service to the 15th District of Maurice F. Lucas, Sr. Grand Chapter OES Prince Hall Affiliation Jurisdiction of Mississippi. She joined Abbeville Court #11 Heroines of Jericho in 1970 and served as secretary 15 years.

Queenie lived by this scripture: “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.” Proverbs 3:5-6.

Queenie was united in holy matrimony to Casey James “Buster” Dixon, Sr., and to this union 10 children were born: four sons and six daughters. She leaves to cherish her loving memories six daughters: Fannie Dixon Evans, Mae Ruthe Dixon, and Sarah Dixon Pegues, all of Oxford, MS; Dorothy Dixon of Greenwood, MS; Christine Dixon (Calvin) Fox of Charlotte, NC; and Carolyn Dixon of Memphis, TN. She also leaves with sweet memories 20 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren, one brother-in-law, Horace Ray Dixon of Bartlesville, OK, and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relative and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Casey James Dixon, Sr., siblings Eddie Bell Kimmons, James “J.D.” Blakely, Minnie Mae Hill, Mattie Pearl Kirkwood, Aleane Sims, Reverend Arthur Herod & Essie Sims; four sons Murray Lee Dixon, Casey James Dixon, Jr., Bobby Gene Dixon, and Benny Ray “Tony” Dixon, Sr., and one grandson, Adrian Glenn Dixon, Sr.
