Betty Ortiz Bronx, New York Obituary

Betty Ortiz

We regretfully announce the passing of Betty Ortiz in Manchester, CT on November 28th. Betty was surrounded by her family and passed away peacefully. Our mother, Betty, was one of the strongest women to ever walk this earth, and our family was blessed to have her as the head of the family. Betty Gordils was brought into this world on May 1, 1926 in Ponce PR. She moved to the Bronx when she was 18 to work in an embroidering factory. In NY, she met Paul and together they went on to have 6 children. Betty was a wonderful and loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother who gave her all to her family. She was widowed at 54 and was the leader of the family always encouraging everyone to stay close. We will never be able to fill the space left behind by her. Betty was the life of the party, and she had a great sense of humor. She was always on the dance floor and would often enjoy encouraging others to dance with her. If Ricky Martin was playing, everyone needed to get up and dance with her. Her love for game shows and Bob Barker were a daily pleasure, and her loyalty to the Yankees were unabated even though she got angry at them sometimes. She was passionate about cooking, and everyone raved about her food, especially her rice, beans, pasteles and empanadas. Betty cared deeply for others, she demonstrated that through her work in health care and all the children she looked after who considered her family. Betty was predeceased by her husband Paul Ortiz, her son George Ortiz, and her son-in-law Stuart Weiss. Her beautiful life will forever be cherished in the lives of her family: her daughter-in-law Linda Ortiz, daughter Everlin Weiss, son Paul Ortiz, Jr., daughter Josephine Ortiz, daughter JoAnn Ortiz, daughter Yvonne Kasper, and her son-in-law Mark Kasper; her grandchildren Tanya Connor, Alexa Martin, Barbara Robbins and her husband John Robbins, Christopher Ortiz and wife Tricia Ortiz, Arielle Lupo, Robert Lupo, Jr., Michael Moore, William Moore, James Kasper, Ryan Kasper and Jason Kasper; her great grandchildren Pablo Whitehead, Dylan Whitehead, Reagan Connor, Scarlett Robbins, Phoebe Robbins, Riley Ortiz and Jesse Ortiz. Mass services will be held on Monday, December 6th at St. Benedict’s Church in Bronx, NY, followed by burial at St. Raymond’s Cemetery Bronx, NY.
