John A. Campbell Obituary

John Alexander Campbell, III (aka Brrly) passed away on Sunday, November 28, 2021 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Toledo, Ohio. Born to Mary Jo and John A. Campbell, Jr., in Des Moines, Iowa, John grew up in Mitchellvile attending SouthEast Polk High School. He enjoyed a lifelong career in the construction industry as a concrete saw operator. Living in Los Angeles, California in the early 1980s, he spoiled his youngest sister with Mickey and Minnie mouse dolls taller than her! John later moved to Toledo, Ohio where he spent over 30 years. Making a home there included adopting beloved German Shepherd dogs, Jack and Chance. He was always asking for his sister Barbara to send peanut butter cookies and Mom’s homemade fudge. Throughout his life, John enjoyed several hobbies. As a Harley Davidson fan, John’s bike was featured in Hot Bike magazine in February 1999. In later years, he became a Wheel Horse collector when he inherited his father’s Wheel Horse tractor. His collection and obsession quickly grew leading to a “horsin’ around” Montana Thanksgiving road trip with his nephew Brent a few years ago. Always sports minded, he enjoyed watching Nascar (Dale Jarrett and a Ford fan!) and the Iowa Hawkeyes. A Hawkeye football fan to the end, John watched the Iowa Hawkeyes win one last game against Nebraska. Left to cherish his memory are his mother, Mary Jo Campbell, sisters Barbara Campbell and Veva Bernardino, and many nieces and nephews including Jennifer (KP), Samantha, Daniel (Ashley) Joseph (Christian), Robert (Megan), Michelle, Brent, and Mollie. Additionally, he is survived by four great nieces, four great nephews, and many cousins who love him. John was preceded in death by his partner Linda Braden, sister Tina Campbell, and father John A. Campbell, Jr. We’ll always love and miss you Johnny! John’s final resting place will be Highland Memory Gardens in Des Moines, Iowa next to his father. Graveside services are pending. Given his love of animals, the family requests any memorial donations be made to Animal Lifeline of Iowa in his memory.
