Richard F. Worden Obituary

Richard “Dick” Worden, age 91, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, November 28th, 2021.  He was born on January 22, 1930, in Green Bay, WI to the late Frank and Margaret Worden.  He was united in marriage to Patricia Luedtke on June 11, 1955.

Dick’s family homesteaded to Matanuska Valley, Alaska in 1935.  He graduated in 1947 from Anchorage High School in Alaska.  He then served in the Army at Alaska’s Fort Richardson Base from 1951 – 1953.  It was now time to return to his family who had moved to Appleton in 1952.  Studying Electronic Courses in 1953 – 1954 at the Appleton Vocational School led to his employment with IBM from 1955 to his retirement in 1995.  His work area was in the Northern region of Wisconsin.

He was a proud member of the Appleton Elks Lodge #337 for 35 years.  Also, he had worked with the Appleton American Legionnaires for the past five years.

In 2019, Dick was fortunate to have had the opportunity to fly with the “OLD GLORY HONOR FLIGHT” to Washington, D.C. to view the historical monuments and sights.  Also, he and Patsy enjoyed traveling throughout the country.

He will be sadly missed by his loving  wife of 66 years, Patricia.  Dick is further survived by three sisters:  Joyce Osborn of San Antonio, TX, Pat (Bill) Smudde, of Milton, FL, Peggy (Jerry) Kain, of Sturgeon Bay, WI; and a sister-in-law, Lola VandenWyngaard; brothers-in-law:  Carlton Luedtke and Elmer (Karen) Luedtke, Jr.  Many nieces and nephews also have fond memories of their Uncle Dick.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers:  Jack, Ronald, and Kenneth Worden; and a sister, Lois Burns.

Due to Covid-19, a private funeral service will take place.  Entombment will take place at Highland Memorial Park, Appleton.

The family would like to express a special thank you to family and neighbors for the kindness shown to Dick throughout his lifetime.  Dick will be remembered for lending a helping hand to those in need.
