Justin Lee Lathrop Obituary

On November 24th, 2021, Justin Lee Lathrop took his last breath here on earth and his next one in Heaven. Justin was born on June 27th, 1990 to Jack and Loretta Lathrop. He grew up in Choctaw where he graduated from Choctaw High School. He was very competitive from an early age; playing baseball, football, softball and wrestling. He was the king of all contests including eating contests, class clown for numerous years, home run derby’s, 3-point shootouts, and probably world record holder for most days spent in ISS. If sitting in the principal’s office were a contest, he would have won that also, hands down. He accomplished some of these things before even entering Junior High. As he got older, he was involved more and more in Lighthouse Baptist Church. Justin was heavily involved in AA, volunteering in all aspects. He had lots of speaking engagements at meeting and conventions, sharing his testimony about Christ with all. He also volunteered at the Suicide Hotline Center, where he helped countless people find hope. Justin made friends everywhere he went and never met a stranger. In April on 2017, he became a dad to Maylee Grace. He was the proudest daddy in the world. She was the apple of his eye and she adored her daddy. He loved taking her to the park, although, we’re not entirely sure who wanted to go the most, or who enjoyed it more! When Maylee was little, it would be nothing to find Justin IN the crib with her playing, and yes, he has been found in her pack-n-play with her also. It didn’t matter what time of evening he got home- he always headed straight for his baby girl and got her out her bed, even after hearing “I just put her to bed” he would always say “she can sleep anytime, right now its playtime with daddy”. Of course she was only 2 weeks old by then, but it was a ritual and he did it for the next 4 years. In October of 2019, Justin was ordained in the ministry, becoming an Associate Pastor at Lighthouse Baptist Church, bringing messages of hope when called upon. In April of 2021, after dating for 2 1/2 years, he married Courtney Callison, instantly becoming a family of five. Their favorite thing to do for date night was playing putt putt golf! Callie and Kimber loved it when Justin came home and would immediately go outside to play with them in the yard! He would play trivia games with Kimber for cash prizes, and she won about half of them! Justin made every life event an adventure. Trips to the grocery store, going to church or just getting gas, you could always count on a fun time to be had by all. He was the most hilarious person on earth, even if it wasn’t funny, he had a way of telling it where you couldn’t help but laugh. Anytime there was karaoke, he was there, being the life of the party. Non-stop humor was how he dealt with everything. He could quote movie lines better than any actor. He could quote scriptures by the chapter and almost every Bible he was ever given, he gave it away to someone who needed it. He had a heart for the wayward, the homeless and the helpless. Justin picked up people to go to meetings, to church, or to the recovery center. He showed up every holiday at his mother’s, fashionably late, with a carload of people that didn’t have family or a place to go. Those people are still a part of our family today. He was proceeded in death by his grandparents, Melvin and Roberta Buckley, Jack and Rosemary Lathrop, Grandma Lucy, Jack Mefford, aunts, uncles and a host of friends. He is survived by his wife, Courtney Lathrop, daughters Maylee, Kimber and Callie of OKC. Parents Jack and Loretta Lathrop of Choctaw. Brother Aaron Buckley and wife Whitney of Shawnee and sister Christa Griffey and husband Robert of Harrah. Nieces Lily, Addisyn, Kyelen and Crescent. Nephews Cody and KJ along with a host of aunts and uncles, cousins and friends. Honorary Pallbearers are Sean Garbutt, Taylor Craft, Morgan Treaster, Logan Carter, Matt Hutcherson, Kaleb Gandy, and Derek Jordan. The family would like to thank everyone for their prayers and support during this time. Justin was truly loved and will be missed by so many. A special thank you to Barnes and Friederich for your kindness and compassion during our time of need.
