Pauline J. Johnston

Pauline J. (Yancy) Johnston, 98, of Latrobe, passed away Monday, November 29, 2021 at her home. Born January 2, 1923 in Bradenville, she was a daughter of the late Thomas Yancy and Julia (Zitt) Yancy. Pauline was a member of St. Vincent Basilica Parish, Latrobe. Prior to her retirement, she had been a manager and buyer for the children’s department at the former Troutman’s Department Store, Latrobe. She loved the outdoors and nature, whether it be plants, flowers, or birds, and enjoyed fishing. Every spring, she loved morel mushroom hunting and sharing that tradition with her family. She was an avid baker, baking countless loaves of homemade bread and rolls, and also enjoyed shopping and trips to the casino. Beyond anything else, Pauline dedicated her life to taking care of her family. She was always happiest when her family was around. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William F. Johnston Sr.; her son, William F. Johnston Jr.; five brothers, John, Andrew, Raymond, Victor, and Henry Yancy; and eight sisters, Mary Peterson, Ann Kaminsky, Catherine Slezak, Margaret Halbohm, Rosalie Jane Yancy, Dorothy Mareschi, Helen Gozdick, and Veronica Hill. Pauline is survived by two daughters, Sandra Heintzelman (Brad), of Latrobe, and Rosalie Bartell of Derry; six grandchildren, Dan McCreery (Gwen), Jennifer Venneman, Elaine Bruce (Eric), Rebecca Chappie (Dan), Toni Orsatti (Ray), Rosanne Bartell (Adam); 17 great-grandchildren, Katelyn, Davis, Kyrstin, Grey, Michaela, Annika, Harrison, Bion, Savana, Jessie, Rayna, Brook, Noah, Joseph, Tanner, Landen, and Lily; she is also survived by numerous beloved nieces and nephews. Pauline’s family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Dr. Donald Jakubek and his team, Excela Health Home Care and Hospice, and Aspen Dental, for all of their kindness and compassionate care. There will be no public visitations. Family and friends are invited to attend a funeral Mass at 10 AM Thursday at St. Vincent Basilica. Interment will follow at St. Clair Cemetery, Greensburg. Arrangements are being handled by the Lopatich-Brinker Funeral Home, LLC, 601 Weldon Street, Latrobe. I loved going to visit family and seeing gram, she was always joyful and loved to give to her family. Some of my favorite memories with her was playing cards with her at night, she always had a trick up her sleeve.
