Bernice Jean Johnson

Bernice Jean Johnson, 74, of Bemidji, MN formerly of Brainerd died Thursday, November 25, 2021 at Sanford Bemidji Medical Center. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 pm Thursday, December 2, 2021 at the Cease Family Funeral Home in Bemidji with Pastor Holly Hovestol officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Little Falls, MN on Friday at 12 noon under the direction of the Cease Family Funeral Home in Bemidji. Bernice was born on October 5, 1947 in Brainerd, MN, the daughter of Ernest and Aldene (Scheerle) Gosse. She was raised on the Gosse family dairy farm south of Brainerd. After graduation from Brainerd High School, she went on to graduate in 1968 from the St. Luke’s School of Nursing in Duluth MN. Bernice began and ended her nursing career working as a Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse at St. Joseph's Hospital in Brainerd, MN. Bernice served in the United States Air Force as a First Lieutenant flight nurse from 1970 - 1977 serving our country all over the world. Bernice was a passionate nurse, caring for each and every patient as if they were her only patient. She thought of each of her coworkers as family. Bernice enjoyed reading, doing daily jigsaw puzzles on her tablet, painting and listening to Lori Line piano music. Bernice absolutely cherished spending time with her daughter and 3 granddaughters. She is survived by her daughter Kimberly (Johnson) Crawford and granddaughters Hazel, Lucy and Piper Crawford of Bemidji, MN. Brothers - Herb Gosse & family, Richard Gosse & family, Rocky Gosse & family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Aldene (Scheerle) Gosse. Honorary pallbearers: the nurses, doctors and staff at Sanford Bemidji Hospital who lovingly cared for Bernice during her last days and the nurses she worked with at Trinity Hospital in Minot, ND and St. Joseph’s Hospital in Brainerd, MN.
