John C. Counihan

<p>John C. Counihan peacefully entered into eternal rest on Friday, 26 November 2021. John was born in the Bronx, New York on 27 November 1926 to the late John Counihan and Johanna Sullivan Counihan. He spent his early years in New York City attending Sacred Heart Grammar School in the Bronx and Power Memorial High School in Manhattan before joining the United States Navy in September 1944 at the age of seventeen. John served proudly as a Signalman during WWII Pacific Theatre Campaign in Japan and later in China before being assigned to the USS Jack W. Wilke (DE-800) an experimental antisubmarine warfare ship operating out of Key West, Florida. John was a true American Patriot who remained proud of his service to his country throughout his entire life.&nbsp;</p> <p>Following his time in military service, John attended Champlain College in Plattsburg, New York on the GI Bill earning a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration and later earned an M.B.A. Degree from New York University (1960). John enjoyed a very long and successful career as an international production and sourcing manager for American Cyanamid/Lederle Laboratories Corporation, Richardson-Vicks, Inc., and Proctor &amp; Gamble Corporation, traveling globally to most of the countries of Asia, S.E. Asia, Central and South America. Upon his retirement during 1993, John enjoyed fishing aboard his boat, the &ldquo;Irish Reel&rdquo;.</p> <p>John married the love of his life, Eileen Margaret Monaghan on 9 January 1954 and enjoyed a 49-year marriage until her death during 2003. John is survived by his three children, Christopher Counihan and his wife Robin of Milford, CT; Daniel Counihan, his wife Eileen of North Wales, PA and their children Ryan Counihan and Caitlin DiPaola (Daniel); Kerry Anne Murphy and her husband K. Todd of Marshfield, MA and their children Reilly, Cassidy, Declan and Rory. John is also survived by his sister Mary Schilling of Rockaway Beach, New York. John was predeceased by his brothers, Joseph Counihan of Long Beach, NJ and Donald Counihan of Cape Coral, FL.</p> <p>Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on Friday, December 3, 2021 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the CODY-WHITE FUNERAL HOME, 107 Broad St., Milford, CT. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 1 p.m. at St. Mary Church (Precious Blood Parish), 70 Gulf St., Milford, CT. Interment with Military Honors will be at St. Mary Cemetery, Buckingham Ave., Milford, CT.</p>
