Long time Anchorage resident Delbert Cederberg, 89, died November 11, 2021, of natural causes surrounded by his loving wife of 60 years, Elaine Cederberg and children Arthur Cederberg and Elisa Stewart. A Celebration of Life Open House will be held at Allied Steel Construction at 6218 Nielsen Way, Anchorage, AK 99518 on December 20, 2021 from 4-8pm; on what would have been Delbert’s 90th Birthday. Delbert was born December 20, 1931 in Manhattan, Kansas, to Arthur & Bessie Cederberg growing up on their family farm. Working on his relatives farms over the years and starting a steel tank fabricating business, he married Elaine Mateus on June 23, 1961 in Rockford, IL. then headed west to San Diego. After working in the shipyards for a short time, he eventually moved to Seattle where he was offered a job at Boeing. Delbert and Elaine drove the Alcan Hwy to Alaska in early spring of 1963 where he first worked for Industrial Air Products and was also a member of the Anchorage Volunteer Fire Department. He tried his hand in other companies until he purchased Alcraft a small welding shop in 1974. Over the years the company named changed to Allied Steel Construction, Inc., a family business that his son Arthur Cederberg will continue to run and maintain, with the strong business practices Delbert instilled in him, along with Delberts grandchildren Gage, Jake, Shilo, Delbert and daughter in-law Sasha. Over 47 years in business his company participated in many structural steel “red iron” commercial building projects such as hotels, office buildings, shopping centers, banks and houses around Anchorage and thru out the state of Alaska. Delbert was a valuable participant in many welding & steel fabrication projects around the Anchorage area, most notably the animal cages for various exhibits in the Alaska Zoo and the Karl Eid Ski Jump at Hilltop Ski Area. Delbert was involved in fabricating up to 29 public art sculptures, some well-known art projects include the massive “Transition” sculpture at the entrance of the George M. Sullivan Sports Arena, the Fairview Neighborhood sign and the stainless steel Ice Fountain sculpture at the Loussac Library. Delbert contributed to the welding projects and needs of the Anchorage Ski Club at Arctic Valley and also received The Governor’s Arts and Humanities Award in Arts Business Leadership in 2018. Delbert was a long-time active member of the Mountain View Lions club which maintains the Community Park. He loved working on his commercial gold mine out near Ruby, AK. with his partners and would jump at the chance to fly out there to camp and work for a few days or weeks. He loved Maui and spent many years living there during the winter months. Delbert, who always seemed to be whistling when he was happy, would go out of his way to help anybody with anything at anytime whether it was physical labor or helping financially. Delbert is preceded in death by his parents Arthur & Bessie Cederberg, sister Violet Justice, brother Richard Cederberg and sister Lois Trimpe. Delbert is Survived by son, Arthur (Sasha Cederberg), daughters, Elisa Stewart and Jessica (Kevin Redmond), grandchildren, Gage, Shilo, Delbert, Mika, Jake, Alex, Nelson and Elizabeth and great grandchildren, Kruz and Scarlet.
