Bill Dean Propst Obituary

Bill was born in Cape Girardeau, Missouri to parents Ray and Alma Propst, and was an older brother to Betty. His family later moved to Evansville, Indiana where he attended Benjamin Bosse High School, and met his wife of 66 years, Mary Jane. Bill enlisted in the Army to attend trade school at Camp Gordon in Augusta, Georgia learning radio and flight control communication. He spent 18 months on the front line in Korea, and then returned to the United States to Dugway Proving Grounds in Tooele County, Utah. Bill and Mary Jane were married June 5, 1955, and later moved to Chicago, Illinois where Bill attended DeVry Technical Institute. He then graduated and was offered a job in Phoenix working for Sperry (later Honeywell) for 37 years as an electronic technician. He took great pride in his work, receiving recognition for multiple programs, including: Boeing 777, MD-80, and Space Shuttle. Bill enjoyed the outdoors and all that nature had to offer. He especially enjoyed going up north to the mountains to camp, fish, hunt, and ride motorcycles. He also enjoyed golf, bowling, and was a big fan of the Phoenix Suns and Arizona Cardinals. He will be remembered as a kind-hearted, sweet, and gentle man who was well-liked by many, and always offered a lending ear to those in need. Bill passed away peacefully surrounded by his family and under hospice care of his goddaughter, Pam Clemitt. He now resides peacefully with his Savior, free from suffering. Bill was preceded in death by his father, mother, and sister. He is survived by his lovely wife, Mary Jane, and their two children, Terry (Marlowe) Andersen and Dave, along with eight grandchildren Truett (Michelle) Andersen, Atticus, Audriana Rhodes, Hannah (Matt) Baylon, Troi Rhodes, Jade Rhodes, Mya, and Brenson, and three great-grandchildren McKenna Andersen, Tyler Andersen, and ‘Baby Girl’ Baylon due in March 2022. A private service for the family will be held on December 15, 2021, at the National Memorial Cemetery at 11:00 a.m. Donations can be made in memory of Bill to the Salvation Army or St. Mary’s Food Bank in lieu of flowers.
