Wesley Richard 'Hondo' Herren

On November 6, 2021 Wesley Richard ‘Hondo’ Herren gained his wings. He passed away peacefully at his home in Big Timber after a short battle with cancer. Wes was born January 26, 1967 in Billings to Louise and Gary Herren. He grew up in Billings, graduating from Senior High School in 1985. Wes was always into sports, playing Little League Baseball and he played hockey all year long. He didn’t need ice and you could find him practicing at the park even in the summer. Wes started playing football in middle school and ended his high school career as the quarterback for Senior High and was also a member of an amateur hockey team which played in the United States and in Canada. He attended college on a football scholarship. After college Wes’s sports changed a little, he began bull riding, 4-wheeling, mountain biking, shooting and he had also acquired a motorcycle. Wes held many jobs right out of high school, including sales in a sporting goods store. In 1999 he started a career in telecommunications working for various companies from South Dakota to Montana, and in 2004 he began working for Triangle Communications (Central Montana Communications). For seven years he worked as an area service technician in Meagher County where he was responsible for maintaining Triangle’s telecommunication’s infrastructures in White Sulphur Springs, Ringling and Martinsdale. In 2011 he moved to Big Timber where he began working for Triangle in the construction department installing new telecommunications service to homes and businesses in that region, before returning to work as an area service technician. Wes volunteered his time to help with the rodeos in White Sulphur Springs, Harlowton and the nightly rodeo in Big Timber, lending a hand wherever needed. Wes never met a stranger and always had a smile and a positive outlook, the number of friends he made through the years is endless. Wes was preceded in death by his mother in 2014, and is survived by his daughters; Shelby and Sara, grandson Greyson, his father Gary Herren and sister Susan Neher. A celebration of Hondo’s life will be held 1:00 pm Saturday December 4 at the American Legion Club in Big Timber. To leave condolences for the family, please visit www.stenbergfuneralhome.com
