Michael Dennis Long Obituary

Michael Dennis Long

Mike was born February 10, 1948 in Milford, MA to Francis Adrian and Elizabeth Anne Long, and passed away on November 24, 2021.

Growing up, Mike moved all over the country with his parents and seven brothers, as Grandpa Fran served in the US Air Force and was stationed in bases across the USA.

Mike attended St. Francis Preparatory Academy in Pennsylvania, and then continued his education at Catholic University in Washington DC. He further studied at the University of Maryland, where he received his Bachelor’s Degree.

Mike was a loving, caring, and humble father and husband, who loved spending time with family and friends. He also enjoyed photography and nature, traveling, hiking with his wife Naomi, and exploring the sights. He had many opportunities to travel while working with the Marriott Corporation and others. His record collection was legendary, and his musical taste included jazz, rock and of course, Christmas music.

Mike was always quick with a “Dad joke,” a warm smile, and words of support during times of stress. Mike was always patient and willing to listen to others’ viewpoints, and sought to find the best solution for what was troubling them.

Michael always took special care of his family and had extraordinary pride in his children, Darren, Brendan and Elisha, and his grandchildren, Tyson, Marshall, and Phoenix. He shared a close and cherished relationship with all of them. Even in his final years, when he struggled to find words, he frequently asked Darren and his wife, Cait, when he could see “the boys” again.

Mike is survived by six brothers, Francis Adrian Long of Virginia, Kevin Long and Tim Long of Texas, Brian Long of Colorado, John Long of California, and Jim Long of Tennessee. He was predeceased by his brother Terry Long. Survived and loved by so many, Mike will be terribly missed.

A funeral service will be held Wednesday, December 1st at 11 am at Castiglione Funeral Home in Greenwich, Connecticut. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Greenwich.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration or the Mesulam Center at Northwestern University.

While the Earth has grown dimmer without him here, Heaven surely has become even brighter.
