Frances Claire Checkley Obituary

Frances Claire Checkley

Born December 26, 1950 in Jollimore, NS.

Age 70, of Halifax, NS passed away on November 26, 2021 at home with her son Blain by her side.

She was the daughter of the late Stephen and Marjorie (Manuge) Innes.

Fran’s life was one of giving and community. She became involved in scouting to support her son Blain and stayed involved in the Cubs after Blain left the pack. She was incredibly active with the MS Society of Canada and helped raise a lot of funds to help those afflicted with the disease. She was involved with the MS Bike Tour and the delivery of fruitcakes around the Halifax Metro Area. She also enjoyed swimming and was an avid swimmer. She was very dedicated in volunteering her time to teach the blind and mentally challenged how to swim.

She will be missed by her son Blain (Michelle) Checkley, her siblings Nancy (Fred) Harries, Stowe, Vt.; Betsy Cooke, Enfield; Margaret (Earl) Croft, Dartmouth; Judy (Frank) Bain, Wolfville; Heather (Eddie) Schyf, Cobble Hill, BC; Keith (Sheila) Innes, Boutilier’s Point; Sandra Innes, Windsor; Bruce (Jean) Innes, Hammonds Plains; Susan Manning of Alberta, Deborah Innes, Upper Vaughan; sister-in-law Elaine Innes, Bridgewater, sister-in-law Carol Innes, Bridgewater; brother-in-law Gilbert Cooke, Gulf Shore Road, NS; as well as many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents; Stephen and Marjorie Innes, brothers William Innes, Donald Innes and Richard Innes; and sisters, Josephine (Blackburn), Genesta (Wheadon), and Caroline (Cooke). While we are sad to see her leave, they will be so delighted to see her again.

A deep and heartfelt thank you to the medical system in Nova Scotia giving her the voice to end her suffering and pain when she was too tired to go on. VON and Northwood homecare workers for their empathetic care of Mom and to Doctor Gubitz and MAID.

There will be no visitation or funeral as per Mom’s wishes. Please send your online condolences to www.rawalker.ca
