Maryee Whitley

Maryee H. Whitley, 85, of Hampton, Iowa, died Saturday, November 27, 2021, at Franklin General Hospital in Hampton. She was born October 10, 1936, in Wichita, Kansas, to parents Pascal and Antonella (Gerardo) Soliz. Maryee attended St. Mary's High School in Oklahoma City, Kansas. She was united in marriage to Sanders Whitley on August 16, 1986, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She was always there for those around her, and that was reflected by her work. Maryee started working in child care in 1988 and never stopped. She also worked at Access Inc. in Hampton for a time. Nothing brought Maryee more joy than being a mother. She was a spectacular cook, famous for her chorizo and tamales. Maryee was very involved in her community, participating in various prayer and bereavement groups. She was a very social person and a great listener. She also had a fantastic sense of humor. Later in life Maryee enjoyed drawing and caring for the animals on their farm. She was a lifelong Green Bay Packers fan. Maryee loved her friends and family unconditionally. Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Sanders Whitley of Hampton, sons, Mike (Tammy) Benavidez of Hampton, Jacinto Benavidez of Kenosha, Wisconsin, Mark (Sheri) Benavidez of Kenosha, Wisconsin, and Damien Whitley; daughter, Calisto Whitley of Hampton; daughter-in-law, Shelly Benavidez of Oklahoma; sisters, Rose Puente and Virginia Lopez; grandchildren, Tanya Parent, Eddie (Megan) Benavidez, Danielle Benavidez, Joshua Benavidez, Dallas Benavidez, Cody Benavidez, Heather Benshoof, Damien Benavidez, Destiny Benavidez, Bailey Benavidez, and Nicholas Benavidez; many great grandchildren, and numerous family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Pascal and Antonella, brother, Robert Lopez, son, Vincent David Benavidez, and sister Pauline Garcia. A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, December 2, 2021, at Sietsema Vogel Funeral Home in Hampton.
