Carmelo F. Forestiere Obituary

Carmelo F. Forestiere, known affectionately as “Cus”, entered into eternal life on Thursday, November 25, 2021, at the age of 91. He was born and raised in New Orleans where he graduated from St. Aloysius High School in 1947 and went on to study drafting at Delgado Community College. He worked as a skilled draftsman and was employed by Shell Oil Company for 32 years. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, brother, uncle, stepfather and grandfather. He was married for over 28 years to Irene Poche, who died at an early age of cancer. He later wed Barbara D’Angelo and they remained married for over 36 years until her passing. He was a devoted Catholic, saying his daily rosary, and a parishioner of St. Christopher the Martyr Catholic Church. He lived a full life, enjoying a happy childhood and two loving marriages. He loved traveling, square dancing, bowling, reading novels, collecting Mardi Gras doubloons and playing the most challenging Sudoku puzzles. He had a passion for drawing and painting. He will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts. He is survived by his daughter Diane Forestiere Colby (Steve), stepsons John Joseph D’Angelo (Katherine) and Leonard Michael D’Angelo (Winnie), stepdaughter Mary D’Angelo Darkshani, grandchildren Monique Colby Elstrott (Scott) and Michelle Colby Gray (Brice), step-grandchildren Leonard J. D’Angelo, Matthew R. Rogers (Rachel), Robert J. D’Angelo (Megan), John James D’Angelo, Sophia G. D’Angelo, Chloe A. D’Angelo, Macie V. D’Angelo, Kamron C. Darkshani, John Jules D’Angelo and step-great-granddaughter Emma L. Rogers. Carmelo enters his eternal life joining his parents Angelo Forestiere, Sr. and Alice Boze Forestiere, and his brother Angelo Forestiere, Jr. He is also predeceased by his wife Barbara D’Angelo Forestiere and his first wife Irene Poche Forestiere. For the past two years, he was a resident of St. Margaret’s at Mercy Nursing Home in New Orleans, before which he was a longtime resident of Metairie, Louisiana. The family wishes to thank the nurses and staff of St. Margaret’s Hospice and St. Margaret’s at Mercy for their loving care during his stay. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass at 12:15 PM on Thursday, December 2, 2021 in the J. Garic Schoen Chapel of Jacob Schoen & Son, 3827 Canal Street, New Orleans, LA 70119.
