Visitation: Monday, November 29, 2021 from 9am-11am at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Morton.

Service: Monday, November 29, 2021 at 11:30 am at Parkway Baptist Church in Morton.

Burial: Parkway Baptist Cemetery following the service.

Arrangements were entrusted to the care of Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Morton.

Mrs. Dorothy “Dot” Jean Moore Bates

Morton, MS

Mrs. Dot Bates, age 90, passed away at Mississippi Care Center in Morton on Thursday, November 25, 2021 surrounded by her loving family.  Visitation will be held 9am-11am Monday, November 29, 2021 at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Morton.  Funeral service will be held at 11:30am Monday at Parkway Baptist Church in Morton with burial in the church cemetery.  Bro. Paul Smith and Bro. Ed Vitagliano will officiate the services.  Arrangements were entrusted to the care of Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Morton.

Mrs. Bates was born in Scott County on September 6, 1931.  Dot enjoyed sewing, cooking and spending time with her family.  She loved the Lord and was faithful to read her Bible.  She was a member of the Senior choir at First Baptist Church and was always excited about traveling and singing with the choir.  She will be greatly missed by all who loved and knew her.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Billy Ray Bates; parents, James Wesley Moore and Sola Omega Maize Moore; daughter, Brenda Bates and twin grandsons.

She is survived by her 4 children, Deborah Rae Risher of Pulaski, Dianne Vitagliano (Ed) of Pontotoc, James E. Bates (Denise) of Shiloh and Pam Fulton (Richard) of Florence; 9 grandchildren, Amanda Risher Tagert, Jonathan Risher (Angela), Lindsay Vitagliano, Tony Vitagliano (Whitney), Meagan Smith, Jamie Goldman (Cody), Chris Fulton (Amy), Nathan Fulton and Blake Brown (Will); Dot was known as Mamaw 2 to all her grands, great grands and her 1 great great grand. 

Pallbearers were Mark Bates, Sammy Lovett, Jr., Sammy Regions, Glenn Crotwell and Tim Crotwell.
