Robert W. Peterson Obituary

Robert W. Peterson, 104, of Erie, PA passed away on Friday, November 26, 2021 at Sarah Reed Retirement Center. He was born in Kane, PA on September 14, 1917 to the late Ernest and Emma Peterson. Bob graduated in 1935 from Kane High School and attended his class reunions until 2015. His first job was at the Kane Hotel where he worked as a cook until he moved to Erie in 1941 to join the Pennsylvania Railroad. Before he enlisted in 1942 to join the U.S. Army in World War II, he married the love of his life another swede, Miss Evelyn Ericson. Evelyn pre-deceased him in 1971. Bob retired from the National Forge in Erie at the age of 62. In 1972, he married Bertha Cavalski and enjoyed many years of traveling all over the country on Bus and Railroad excursions. Bob and Bert also kept active during their “off-traveling time” by camping, walking, and swimming at the Glenwood YMCA and Pennbriar. They also enjoyed watching Bob’s grandson’s Jason, Kevin, and Billy at their many sporting events and activities. In the winter months, Bob and Bertha especially enjoyed their retirement time spent in Sun City, Florida. In 2004, with age finally catching up with them, Bob and Bertha decided to settle down at Niagra Village Retirement Center in Erie enjoying their many activities including Bob’s passion of bowling, only it was Wii bowling then! In 2006, Bob was left to mourn the passing of Bertha. In 2011, Bob married Elaine Sechez. They resided at Niagra Village until health concerns necessitated their move to Sarah Reed Retirement Center in 2017. In addition to his wife, Elaine Sechez Peterson, he is survived by his only child, Susan Peterson Long (William) of Erie; grandchildren Jason Peterson Long (Julie) of Montgomery, TX, Kevin C. Long (Missy) of Erie, and Billy Long of Waterford, PA; six great-grandchildren Avery, Connor, Ella, Landon, Landry, and Lennox Long; and a couple nieces. In addition to his parents and first and second wife, he is preceded in death by a step-daughter, Carol May and a brother, Ernest Peterson. Per Bob’s request, no calling hours will be observed. His services will be private at a later date. Burial is private and at the convenience of the family. Arrangements were made by the RUSSELL C. SCHMIDT AND SON FUNERAL HOME, INC., 5000 Wattsburg Rd., Erie, PA 16504. Memorial contributions can be made to Luther Memorial Church at 225 W. 10th St., Erie, PA 16501 or the Salvation Army at www.eriepa.satruck.org Bob’s family would like to thank his Interim Health Care Team including Mary, Kat, Nicole, and John for their dedicated caring of “one day at a time” Bob during this very trying time.
