Frank Lamar Hagan, affectionately known as “Cabbage”, was born to the late Willie Frinks and Mildred Lee Hagan in Brooklet, Georgia on January 15, 1937. Mildred later married Angelo Hagan who loved Frank as his own. Frank was one of seven children. He received his education from the Evans County Public School system, and graduated at the age of 19, from Evans County High School, Home of The Longhorns, Class of 1956. Frank played basketball and football while in high school under the leadership of his greatest Mentor and Coach, Virginia Albert. Frank met the love of his life, Mary Lee Williams, at a very young age, and the school sweethearts were joined in Holy Matrimony on May 21, 1961. Their union was blessed with 54 years of marriage until her demise on November 30, 2015. From this union seven beautiful children, Karl, Dennis, Keith, Franklin, Tina, Bobby, and Erika Hagan were born. Frank and Mary Lee were chosen by God to parent a special daughter, Raponsa Williams McNeal. In total, Frank fathered ten children including his two older children: Harry Hagan and Cynthia Brunson. Three children preceded him in death: Keith Hagan, Cynthia Brunson, and Harry Hagan. Two sisters also preceded him in death: Helen Bacon and Onnie Bea Nunnally. After high school, he worked at the Claxton Manufacturing Company. Frank was later led to become an entrepreneur and opened The Wagon Wheel Restaurant, which he successfully operated for 24 years. The Wagon Wheel was a staple in the community and employed many youths giving them a strong work ethic to live productive lives. He also worked with Harper’s Funeral Home for more than 50 years. “Cabbage” was well known and respected throughout the community and amongst his peers. He was known to sponsor community team sports of baseball and football and was a devoted Coach for The Green Hornets Recreation Department football team, which he proudly led them to win several championships. Frank was very active in the community and had many affiliates including but not limited to Afro-American Society for 20 plus years and served as an Organizer in the annual MLK Parade. Frank accepted Christ as his personal savior at an early age and was a FAITHFUL member of St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church until his health deteriorated. Some of his favorite pastimes included reading the newspaper, watching sports, chatting with the guys at The Station (Texaco) and was an avid fisherman. He loved to see all his family gather to fellowship and enjoying good food together. He would sit back smiling and gleamed with pride as he watched his family grow. He was blessed to not only see his children together often, but also his grands and great grands. One of his notable moments of his later years was being The Grand Marshal of the 2016 MLK Parade. Though he remained strong willed and never complained during his illness, towards the end of his life Daddy began to get weak and required assistance from his children. Without a blink they honored him with faithfulness sharing the load of his care. Daddy was blessed, and lived a good life, Fourscore and four years. To God Be the Glory!! He fought the fight; He kept the Faith and finished his course. Embedded deeply in our hearts, he lives forever and leaves a legacy of love and cherished memories to his children, Karl L. Hagan of Statesboro, GA; Fourteen Grandchildren, Sanchez, Dennis Jr., Brandon, Lavonte, Rakeya, Tamra, Keaira, Amari, Shelby, Patrice, Janiah, Bilal, Benninton, and Kameela. Thirteen Great Grandchildren, Kemoni, Azariah, Joshua, Jaiden, Zachery, Caleb, Taaliyah, Tamar, Rylei, Taijhon, Lexton, Brayla and Brielle. Two Brothers, Oneal (Luellen)Young of Statesboro, GA and Screven (Patricia) Hagan of Hampton, VA. Two Sisters, Aldonia Lewis of Hagan, GA and Jean Hagan of Elizabeth, NJ.
