Obituary

Susan Frances Yahr fought extremely hard but lost her battle to pancreatic cancer on Nov. 23, 2021, at St. Elizabeth Hospital, Appleton. Susan was born on Nov. 28, 1967, at St. Elizabeth Hospital to Judy and Jim Yahr. She graduated from UW Milwaukee in 1994 with her BA in Psychology. After graduation she volunteered as am intern at The Fund for the Feminist Majority in Washington, DC. Upon completing her internship, she moved back to Milwaukee an started her career at the State of Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development. She went on to work at WI unemployment as an adjudicator for well over 25 years. Susan was a lover of nature and all creatures big and small. She had many pets throughout her life and would often ‘foster’ cats or rabbits and end up making them her own. She often made donations to a variety of charities that care for neglected or abused animals, like ASPCA.

Her favorite place to be in the summer was in her garden. She called it her ‘happy place,’ tending to her flowers. Susan married David A. Schulz on October 6, 2007, in Las Vegas, NV. They enjoyed their 14 years of marriage.

Prior to her death she was able to go on two vacations to Florida. She loved the warmth of the sun and the sound of the waves. She always wanted to see a sea turtle and got to see one on the one trip to Panama City. She enjoyed walking on the beach at sunsets and eating fresh seafood.

She was a beautiful gentle soul and will be remembered fondly by all who new her; especially her husband, Dave; mother, Judy Yahr; sister, Carrie (Calvin) Schumacher and their children: Chelsea (TJ) Bussewitz, Jake (Emilee) Schumacher and Kaylee (Sam Moua) Schumacher; uncles: Gerald Mund, Tom (Patty) Mund and Tim Mund; her father, Jim’s 2nd wife, Evelyn Yahr; Dave’s daughters: Alisha Brockman and Amanda (Chris) O’Neal and 4 grandchildren; Dave’s siblings: Dan Schulz, Bruce (Cindy) Schulz, Scott (Brandi) Schulz and Teresa Hofmann.

Susan was preceded in death by her father, James Yahr, grandparents: Edward (Frances) Mund and Gord (Marcella) Drexler and father-in-law, James Hrubecky.

A Memorial Service for Susan will be held at 4 PM, on Saturday, December 11, 2021, at Brettschneider Trettin-Nickel Funeral Chapel with Deacon Jerry officiating. Friends and family can visit at the Funeral Chapel from 1-4 PM. Memorials may be directed to the Fox Valley Humane Society or ASPCA in Susan’s honor.

During her battle, Susan required daily radiation and chemotherapy at Froedtert Cancer Center in Milwaukee for over 15 months. Special thanks to friends and family that assisted with daily drives: Gerald Mund, Amy Groeshek and Chris Coller. And thank you to Tina Coller for helping Susan with her new styles. A special thank you to Drs. Douglas Evans and Madana Kamgar for their compassionate care and to Hailey and the 4th floor nurses at St. Elizabeth Hospital.
