Jane Crews LeBlanc Obituary

I passed away at home on Thanksgiving morning, grateful for the love of my family and appreciative of the many years spent in the company of wonderful friends.

The second of six children of Edward Lee Crews and Susie Pepper Crews, I was born on May 17, 1947 in Yazoo City, Mississippi. At the age of nine I moved with my family to Baton Rouge, the city I have always called home. I graduated from Baton Rouge High School in 1965 and then attended LSU, where I met my future husband, William H. “Trey” LeBlanc III. He and I were married for over 52 years, and shared an unbreakable bond of tenderness and trust. His sweet and tireless care for me in the last years of my life filled me with a profound sense of peace.

By far the deepest delight in our lives was raising three incredible children, Rachel LeBlanc Dews (Robert) of Hattiesburg, Mississippi, Claire LeBlanc Crawford (Trey) of Baton Rouge, and William H. LeBlanc IV of Baton Rouge. I took great pleasure in being a grandmother to five beautiful young women, Jane Crews Crawford, Cecelia Crawford, Sterling Dews, Stella Claire Dews, and Carrington Dews, all of whom made me immensely proud and affectionately called me “Bebé.” I am also survived by my five siblings, Susan Crews Keller of Natchitoches, Beth Crews Keen (Richard) of Stuart, Florida, Edward Lee Crews, Jr. (Nancy) of Meridian, Mississippi, Missy Crews Howard of Baton Rouge, and Keith Crews of Baton Rouge.

My memories of growing up with them sustained me throughout my life, and I will forever cherish the joy I derived from being their sister. I treasured my relationships with my extended family as well, with whom I felt at home and at ease. I always tried to be a good listener, a caring companion, and a faithful confidant, and I like to think that I was able to warm and brighten my small corner of the world. I hope that mine will be a legacy of kindness and grace, and that in the wake of my passing there will be more smiles than tears. I remained positive until the very end and encourage all to do the same. In lieu of sending flowers, please help a stranger, kiss a baby, or give comfort to someone who needs it. Information on arrangements will be included below.
